Nice videos - I fly a tomahawk as well. I was not sure about your instrumentation - do you have an engine monitor and how do you lean? Cheers from Hamburg

I have an Exhaust Gas Temperature gauge EGT on the left, once all trimmed established on top of climb, I lean in increments watching the EGT rise in temp F, once I see the RPM drop a little I rotate the indicator hand on the EGT to mark the spot where I reached Peak EGT, then advance the mixture leaver so the temperature hand reads 50-75 degrees rich of peak EGT. and your'e done, I can also see the fuel flow on the Fuel Scan FS-450, although leaning is all about the EGT temperature. keep in mind as a rule of thumb that a lean engine will rum warmer than a rich setting as the fuel cools the engine. and if you do it correctly you should see a grey/white residue on the exhaust pipe.

Been thinking to buy a tomahawk here in the states. Just wondering your impressions about the Tomahawk's maintenance?

Essentially it would be one the most affordable aircraft to maintain, requires an oil change every 50hrs or 4 months, and the usual 100hr or annual. being a simple aircraft without the complexities associated with CSU and Retractable, it takes only 1 day to do, they have had a green corrosion inhibitor applied to all the aluminium so corrosion issues are insignificant, there are some AD’s that need to be attended to if they have not already been done, I would suggest a LAME check the maintenance records (someone familiar with the PA 38's). in Australia the transponder Altimeter and ASI requires to be calibrated every 2 years, so I figure that’s about it.
