Very nicely done, sir, & good job cleaning out the outflow channel as well, it's quite handy having a fall that close to throw the debris over. You're one of the many to find a fishing rod in a beaver dam, a pleasant surprise & nice reward, if it can be put back in working condition. Beavers will use anything that's handy for dam building, & I've heard stories of folks finding lost or dumped long guns, fence posts, tent poles, even trim & plastic pieces from cars that are left behind after accidents. I saw a video recently of two young ladies removing a mud & grass dam from a culvert twice this size, & they uncovered a very nice mountain bike in excellent condition.

As much as we love watching dams get cleared, make sure it is only done when it endangers human property. These dams and jams hold up so much water and they keep the soil wet, purifying the water as it sinks through the earth, recharging the groundwater, raising the water table..it's crucial for ecosystems and the habitat! There's a lot more information on how such dams are beneficial to ecology.

@johncoccetti1322

I was refering to both the dam base in front of the inlet, leaving it ready to be filled in again. Also, was that a step/ lip at the front of the inlet or a long branch clogging the inlet? I don't know if you gave an explanation for it but as much as I love the sound of running water, it almost totally drowned out your commentary.
@Grab_your_Waders
Жыл бұрын
@@johncoccetti1322 Oh I see, that is a concrete or slate base that was set when the culvert was built. On the inlet side of the stone, there is a gravel base leading up to the stone. It should stay clear for a bit but it's now on my list to check regularly so it'll be fine going forward. I'm also working on adding subtitles to my videos and this one now has the option, hope it helps. Thanks for watching.
