There must have been tons of weight in that depth of water that the roof was never designed to carry. Lucky it did not collapse!

Let's see, gallon of water is over 8.3 pounds, looks like a 3 inch drain pipe, which drains at 346 gallons per minute. Video over 5 minutes..... I'm guessing something around 14,000 lbs of water, or 7 tons.

Hi, Clay, Thanks for the calculation. A gallon of water weighs 10 pounds so your calculation is actually on the low side!
@ClayLoomis1958

Derek, I guess that depends on what gallons you are using. There are two US gallons. The wet one is 8.34 pounds. A UK (Imperial) gallon is 10.02. Another reasonable argument for the metric system.

Clay Loomis 346 seems like Alot as roof drains act as both drain and vent so it will suck air as the pipe reaches Max volume of water.

An office I used to work at had a new building built adjacent to the old one but the flat roof on it wasn't sloped properly so a very shallow pond would form after it'd rained. . The pond was visible from the top 2 floors of the old building, sometimes the pond would last a week or more and ducks would park themselves in it for a while. When the company moved to a bigger office I was in one of the last teams out of the old building. Looking round the empty offices, I found a box of branded rubber/plastic ducks that the marketing team had ordered years before and not used so, as I was leaving on the last day I was in that building, I threw them onto the flat roof so they would permanently populate the rooftop pond.

I was wondering if this was the only drain on the roof? Do the maintenance people ever check the roof to see if the drains are clogged up? like these kinds of movies. (Mississippi Gulf Coast, USA)
