It was a red-letter day for White Pine, Jefferson and Hamblen counties Friday as the White Pine Solar Farm formally opened between Morristown and White Pine.
The farm is a collaborative effort among Clearloop, its parent company Silicon Ranch Corporation, Intuit, and REI Co-op. Clearloop is a Nashville-based provider of carbon solutions expanding clean energy access in America. The project was made possible with the support of both Intuit and REI. The farm will help prevent more than 162 million pounds of carbon from entering the atmosphere over the project’s 40-year lifetime.
The White Pine farm is a 2.8-megawatt (MWdc) solar facility that will serve the East Tennessee area.
Students from Meadowview Middle School in Hamblen County and White Pine School in Jefferson County were on hand, along with Arnold Bunch, superintendent of Hamblen County Schools, and Dr. Tommy Arnold, director of schools in Jefferson County. Both systems were each presented a $50,000 check to go toward students’ scholarships in both counties.
