When this song was released in 1973, I was 17 & a heavy rock fan...but when I heard it, it blew me away, but I never had the courage to tell my mates that I liked it ! I played it on a juke box in the local pub, & when the outcry started, as to who put it on...I lust kept my head down !! Possibly the most beautiful song ever written.

I heard this first when I was 15, It sort of influenced my life, I heard more of his songs and tried to live a gentle life. A year later I met my wife. We lived a gentle life, a loving life for 40 years and 1 day. I now live alone with half a soul but listening to this music. Thank you Clifford.

Hello - I first heard this song whilst still at school. At the end of the road was the most beautiful girl from a poor one parent family named Gaye. I went to a friend's house one night and there was Gaye! Sadly she took her life a few months later. This beautiful, sad song therefore has a special place for me. You may live by yourself but you still have Your Soul and a 1000 wonderful memories and Still, you have the Love of your Wife.

I was a pupil at North Bromsgrove High School when Clifford was a teacher there. Whilst he never taught me, I am in his debt. I was told by a senior teacher to get my hair cut because it was longer than school rules allowed. I answered back that my hair wasn't as long as Mr Ward's and I was therefore allowed to keep my flowing locks.

This reminds me of my late Dad, who always spoke of Clifford T Ward.I have to admit, I only heard this recently on Smooth 70's radio here in the UK. And I finally got why Dad liked him so much. It's a song that I can't get out of my head.

This is a great bit of songwriting I first heard I was about 11-12. Then rejected all stuff similar for years as i closed my mind to anything that weren't (punk) rock. Then I got old. Beautiful song.

He never had much of an audience or following in the United States, save for Britons living here at the time. He was huge in Europe and South America and that's where I heard this song for the first time. In later years I tried finding the record in the U.S. but no record store employee even knew who he was. Fast forward to the new millennium and by God, someone posted it on KZitem. It would've been a shame for this man not to be discovered by American audiences, even after his passing. Thanks a million for posting it and God bless!

i love Cliffird T Ward and bought his CD greatesthits or something! but it helped me through a very difficult time in my life depression two autistic kids etc! I love 'Gaye' and other hits 'home thoughts from abroad' This man was a genius sadly taken from us young, but he is eternal and should be installed in the Rock and Roll Hall of fame. grateful Noreenx

Regardless of the references above to poets, he is a complete original and there is an awful lot out there to explore and maybe to be covered by other artists. I followed him in the seventies, and more than once heard him on the radio; notably on a radio discussion where I recall him saying that the most important thing in life was love. I was a teenager and felt this was wonderfully adequate, but how true. What a remarkable man. RIP.

Mmm an early 70s song and the 70s was coming into it's own by then ( for me )with so many magical song's coming out one after another. What a great time in life it was and wasn't we lucky to be part of it all.

Omg, this song takes me to a time when I was a brash teenager with a broken heart after my mother had walked out, and there was my 6 year old brother and I, who stayed with our dad. For some reason, this song left me an emotional wreck, and my heart broke over and over, having to see the crumbling heart and spirit of my father. He never remarried, and when I had moved to another town after marriage, and came home to visit, my heart broke every time I had to leave him. Obviously, every time I heard the song then, and even now, I feel tears welling.. I love you dad. Have you seen mother in Heaven yet..?

Clifford expresses his words so beautifully in respect of Debbie. How ironic in years to come he succombs to a debilitating illness at such a young age. His songs and lyrics have such expressive and beautiful meaning. We miss you Clifford and hope your family find strength in how much joy you brought to the music world and indeed still do.
