The Fellaria Glacier, in Alta Valmalenco, is one of the places where climate change is most visible. From the caves in the lowest part of the glacier, called “vedretta”, on the hottest days you can see huge blocks of ice come off and then float in the lake like icebergs. The spectacle offered to hikers who reached more than 2600 meters is wonderful, but also disturbing.
Like last year, even in these very hot days, with zero temperature over 5300 meters, the phenomenon is even more evident and dramatic. “It's really sad to see the glacier shrinking, we're still enjoying it but who knows future generations,” Giovanni, who came from Como for a walk at high altitude, says worriedly.
