And most of the time they win a settlement just to get rid of them. Birds, flowers, clouds, cute girl, obnoxious cigarette smoker, cool rock formations. A rock climber is focused on handholds, possible anchor points etc. Some of the petroglyphs are barely discernable. The camera zoomed in from far away and told us what we were looking for. That heavy bolt and steel eye is a perverse contrast onto the ancient carvings, yet it makes a statement to how far we've come as a people.

@@Jimbo-pm1dp you are so correct... to do that type of uncaring act proves the mental capacity of the perpetrator was far below those who did the actual stone carving way back when .... Bet this perp touts them self as a progressive

Now finally that’s a good reason to remove bolts from a route. Tired of hearing these blobs of raging ego being like « I’m chopping off those bolts because my cams will hold » This is a matter of preserving unique ancient history and probably the only time I will agree with destroying someone else’s hard bolting work - because it was preventing the destruction of unique and precious hard work.

History always matters. America boasts about it constantly to back any argument they have. How proud they are to be American and how great their history is. Might as well let people climb all over Mount Rushmore National Memorial and let them carve their names and dates into the cliffs. I'm sure over time it will do just fine.

Heartbreaking. But I'm glad the perpetrator came forward and admitted what he had done. This should be educational for all of us climbers.

The end was comforting. The climber came forward to see how he can help fix his mistake. To me that's an honest mistake. A stupid mistake but an honest one

You don't need to bolt a new route, go climb somewhere else for crying out loud! Eric bjornstad has a book called desert rock. Lots of routes.

The entitlement is mind-boggling! Destroying something that belongs to everyone and is irreplaceable. There should be long prison terms for this kind of historical debasement.
