I saw Clive live a while back, and he just SMOKES! His set was half an hour of pure acoustic bliss, and not one person left that room at intermission without a grin from ear to ear. An English Tommy Emmanuel both in terms of chops and entertainment. And a genuinely nice guy to boot!

I was aware of Clive's incredible right hand technique as a fingerstyle wizard but I had no idea his flat picking was equally impressive. He is a force to be reckoned with.

Awesome, I love it. I've seen Clive play this a couple of times live. Once to a lecture hall full of guitar teachers. There were some jaws dropping that day. Nice one Clive. Max

They are both fantastic musicians, both are at such a high level and have their own brilliant things about them that is hard to say one of them is better. As far as I know Tommy hasn't been into coke since the 80's. He became a born again Christian in the process of stopping his habit.

Me too. I saw him tonight at High Barn in Essex. He uses his loop pedal, explains how it works, and just does it. An exceptional guitarist and performer. I'd love to hear him play Django's Tiger. I'm sure he could set up the rhythm on his loop pedal and play over it. Clive, if you read this, thanks for a great time tonight, and maybe think about Django's Tiger???

this guy is mental, the stuff he is doing is plain crazy, he is supposed to stick his tongue out at us while playing because I think I can never reach that level after my long guitar years....he brought it close to the violin piece however, and that is like one great shot. cheers

Nice one, must have been a great experience being with Clive for a week! I'd like to get a hold of some of Clive's albums. Any recommendations? Yeah, Tommy doesn't stick the fact down your throat like a lot of born agains seem to do. I found out about it after nearly a year of listening to the man! Tommy is also a very versatile guitarist, like Clive, would be great to see the two of them play a gig together. Seeing Tommy again on the 24th though. :)

@DocSixString No worries mate. To answer your question, I would think it's one of necessity. From what I have seen of Clive's use of this thing, he basically just uses it to back himself up on things which are impossible to play on one guitar (and by that I mean impossible for Clive, which it seems is practically nothing). Therefore he may not need the extras on the 50, and they are quite bulky. The Line 6 is pretty old now, no? That's what I would think is the case.

I stand corrected then - It was Ralph Bown's guitars that originally led me to Clive's music - and the headstock logo looks similar. My mistake! Cheers.

Interesting about Tommy being born again. I didn't know that. You are right that it is almost impossible to compare guitarists fairly. All I would say is that having done week long guitar courses with Clive, and seen him play not only 'his' material, but also muck around just for fun, I think he can cover tommy's material just as well as TE, and then display astounding virtuosity and musicality ( a rare combined feat) with pretty much any other style. It's all opinion though isn't it?

I think Vottorio would recognise that this is a comedic parody of his piece and would salute the arrangement and recognise how clever it actually is. It's an amazingly skillful arrangement especially with the use of the loop pedal.
