I remember this game I was in the crowd as a 8 year old boy or something like that. Really miss those days. Cricket was so much more exciting then than it is now.

If this was 87, I missed this one. I had just started Nstional Service then. Following this tour, it started the great Eastern Province era under Kepler Vessels. Didn't miss a single B&H night game. What a great EP team.

If South Africa played cricket in their wilderness years, Clive Rice would definitely have been the 5th Great All Rounder along with Botham, Imran, Hadlee & Kapil.

Eddie Barlow's career was cut short by a few years too, and he was almost on a par with Rice in the all-rounder genre. Maybe not as strong with the ball, but easily as good with the bat.....

I saw him and Derek Randall playing for Notts against Hants at Basingstoke when I was about 13, i.e. about 1977. John Rock salvaged the Hants 1st innings with a century, and Gordon Greenidge won the match with a century in the 2nd innings, although one of his fours knocked out an elderly gentleman in the crowd. Trevor Jesty was very nice and gave me his autograph after Randall turned me down.

The days when EP cricket and the legendary SA players played the game. As a member of the long room, I watched many EP games, likes of Rushmere and Am opening. Never forget this Humdinger and the Aussie/ SA game Hansie took over as Captain and De Villiers cleaned the tables to secure that memorable win in Aus. 2AM SA time.

In the 70's and 80's English county teams were as good as test teams with the great South African's and West Indian's, some Pakistani's. I think each team had 3 /4 foreign test player in each team. Rice & Hadlee for Notts, Viv & Garner for Somerset, Barry Richards, Gordon Greenidge, Malcom Marshall for Hampshire etc

So what you heard at 1:10 in the video is another great example of "Commentator's Curse" by our man here Trevor Quirk. "It really is a doddle for the Australians". Clive Rice: "Hold my beer...". Fair enough in this instance. But Quirky had more than his fair share of those moments through his career behind the microphone. Not meant as a criticism, we all loved Trevor Quirk!

Great to see a tribute to this superb, 'cheated-by-fate' cricketer( the greatest never to play an official test imo), now sadly mourned cricketer. There is WAY too little footage of him on the internet. Do you have footage of fairly reasonable length eg like that of yr Pollock 144, of him batting as well, esp against pace bowling. I already have fair chunk of him batting against the spin of Greg Matthews and Phil Edmonds in the 1987 Silk Cut All-Rounder Challenge (he amply proved his all-round excellence and superior tactical skills in those 4 tournaments), but very little of him batting against good pace (only really some shots of his against Imran and Walsh during his 59* in my long highlights of 1987 MCC v ROW match, and few shots of his v Windies and Aussie rebels. Would be really great if you could put something better than that up mate, would hugely appreciate it- but only when you have time obv.
