Very nice demonstration Jeremy but I must say I really like your coffee cups message.

I had the problem with that issue with a close,d vent style of gas cap especially the one that is on a snapper rear engine rider 😎

Robert when I was a kid using our Snapper rear-engine rider I always knew I'd forgot to open the vent screw when it'd die on the second pass around the yard. 🤣

Been there. When I figured it out quickly I was thinking what a poor design not have vented caps on 2 strokes. Also since it's not vent I have had carbs ruin due to pressure.

Now you know damn well that ain't how anyone fills up a fuel tank!! It wasn't filled to the brim with fuel running all down the sides!

Had that happen on a Ford Ranger one time. Took me forever to figure it out. Ran fine in town, fill it up and try and go on a trip, it ain't going to happen. Everyone kept telling me vapor lock. I would pull over and spray the fuel lines down with a bottle of water. By the time I did that, enough air had leaked back into the tank and off I would go. So, I am thinking I resolved my vapor locking issue. A few years later I learned about the gas cap thing. Never had another issue after I put another cap on.

Nice job explaining the concept. What I really needed was the obvious follow up where we go out to your riding mower and look at an ACTUAL gas cap that is clogged. And show HOW the venting actually works on these caps. And how to FIX the problem.

I tried to convince a guy that this is what's wrong with his snow blower. It would run for about 5 minutes and quit. Wouldn't start again until you "let it cool down for about 10 minutes." I told him that with an unvented gas cap, it would take that long for the carb bowl to fill up again. He thought I was stupid, so I left him with his problem. He later called and acted like I was a genius. He had finally put a new cap on and it runs fine.

I've got fuel at my pump, my fuel filter is full, etc. with a tight fuel cap. However, my ExMark Radius 52" won't run with the cap tight. With it loose? It runs perfectly fine. When it's tight again, I'm getting fuel but something is shutting it off after a couple of minutes. She's got oil, etc. no overheating issues. Doesn't run long enough to get hot when the cap is tight. Kinda odd. Everyone is telling me to replace the cap. Thinking of drilling a couple of small holes on that inside piece of the cap & see what happens.

Thank you for the excellent demo. My Cub Cadet CC30H has a vent on top of the fuel tank so I was told. Will cracking the gas cap open a bit allow for the venting it will need to run or can I put a vented gas cap on instead of the vent that I think is plugged on the gas tank? Thanks

OK great explanation. Now how do you *CLEAN* the screened vent on a string trimmer gas cap? The ultrasound cleaner did not work. Granted my friend only ran it 20 minutes with LA Awesome and water.

Are gas tanks only vented in gravity fed systems or do they need to be vented even on mowers with fuel pumps? Im guessing they need to be vented in both styles of fuel delivery

Just came across this problem with a toro single stage paddle wheel machine. Would run great for approximately 3 minutes then stall and die. Leave it alone for about an hour and would restart. Cracked fuel tank cap a little and no runs without problem. Ordered new cap and problem solved. Thanks
