We didn't have to venture far to find ourselves in the heart of the Waterberg Biosphere. The Marakele National Park is spectacular.
Situated in the Limpopo Province and less than 250km from Gauteng, Marakele has a lot to offer.
Marakele means "place of sanctuary". We have heard so much about the Lenong Pass. And it was one of the first things we had to do when we arrived. The mountains dominate the landscape.
In this series, join us as we explore Marakele.
Every mountain pass has a summit and the summit of Lenong Pass had something special waiting for us!
The Lenong Viewpoint is possibly one of the highest points in the Waterberg Biosphere. Our intention was to catch the sunset. It's pretty special to see the vegetation and rocks being lit up by the sun!
After the sun neatly tucked itself behind the expansive Waterberg mountains, the sky transitioned into the most beautiful orange hue which continued to intensify.
The silhouette of the African bushveld and mountain range was picture perfect!
On this occasion, we went back to basics. We camped at the Bontle Rest Camp, the Rhino Loop specifically in our ground tent.
The campsites are spacious and private, enough grass coverage, mainly flat, have built in braai facilities, water and electrical points. The shared ablution and washing facilities are some of the best we have experienced.
The Rhino Loop is conveniently situated within the Park for quick access to the entrance/exit as well as the gravels roads leading to game viewing throughout the area.
