Fossil fuel plants are closing all over the country. No plan to replace the energy these plants create. Yet demand continues to increase as population grows and more and more EVs hit the roads. Colossal disaster on the way. Starting to think it is by design!

The more important question is how will Illinois replace the electricity that was generated by this plant? Will this area experience electricity brownouts or blackouts due to lack of generating capacity? Will there be rationing of electricity for the residents of Lake County and Waukegan? What happens when electricity demand spikes on really hot or cold days? These are questions that are not being answered by the authorities or the WGN reporters ? In fact WGN is NOT even asking the questions? Some pretty poor reporting here
@steven4315

Blackouts and brown outs are nothing new. It is possible to have a 100% bullit proof grid but nobody wants to pay for it. One of the things that can happen is interruptible power costumers are cut of. Large power users get reduced rates if they agree to be interruptible. If you have ever worked in a factory this has probably happened to you, it has happened to me several times.

@@steven4315 Have not worked in a factory , so I have not experienced this . Lived in Illinois most of my life. Have lost power a few times b/c of storms but have not experienced black outs or brown outs due to lack of generating capacity. In fact I don't recall that ever happening in Illinois . So if that occurs this summer and affects residential customers , it will be a shocking experience. (no pun intended) I am think of installing a whole house generator but have not made that decision . Kind of expensive

@@ejhickey Fair point, EV electric car, V2H a system where you use your electric car as back up power for your house. ISO Independent system Operator operates and controls electrical grid in a regional area, an electrical provider must have permission from their ISO before they can close a plant, if the ISO decides they need the plant they will pay a capacity payment to keep the plant available even if it is not running. MISO Midcontinent ISO covers most of Illinois where you live and most of Indiana where I live as well as other areas.
