Continuing on with "Make Mine Music" ---- and if you haven't seen the opening, you should when you get the chance ---, there was a cross-promotion offered with the video release. The tape sold for $24.99 (company practice at the time) and Memorex offered a $10 mail-in rebate when you purchased a set of blank audio or video cassettes. That brought the price down to $14.99 (certain restrictions apply, void where prohibited). Memorex sales and stock went up for two weeks. The video went into "the Disney Vault" on March 31, 1992 (following the lawsuit that was filed in February) and the film would not be released on video again until 2000.
Release Date: December 20, 1991 (although "reportedly" sales did not pick up until January 1992, when most people were returning the tapes they did not want or like)
1. Last few minutes of "Willie the Operatic Whale" and "Make Mine Music"
2. 1985 Walt Disney Pictures logo (silent)
3. "Coming to Home Video" bumper with the top half of the Walt Disney home video logo up top (voiced by Mark Elliott)
4. "101 Dalmations" home video trailer (narrated by Brian Cummings)
5. "The Rescuers" 1992 home video trailer (narrated by Brian Cummings) - Yes, it wouldn't come out until Fall 1992, but this video gave "Rescuers" fans the buzz of their lives. They were talking about it the entire year. Mostly, they were talking about why it took this long for the movie to come out on video.
6. "The Jungle Book" home video trailer (narrated by Brian Cummings, switching to Mark Elliott) - Yes, that is the 1989 Classics logo at the beginning.
7. "Now on Home Video" bumper (Brian Cummings again)
8. "The Rescuers Down Under" home video trailer (Mark Elliott)
9. "Walt Disney Mini-Classics" promo - (to be read here in the mental voice of Sterling Holloway or Jim Cummings) At this point, unaware viewers got the shock of their lives when they discovered that two segments of the film they'd just seen were available by themselves on video. This led to a class action lawsuit against Walt Disney Home Video (Herchowitz et. al. v. The Walt Disney Company, February 1992). Disney decided to settle out of court and offered a "apology" rebate to anyone who had kept their receipts and proof of purchase for "Make Mine Music" and had previously purchased the two "Mini-Classics" in question ("Willie the Operatic Whale" and "Peter and the Wolf") with the original proofs of purchase. Sending in these two or three proofs of purchase plus the aforementioned receipt awarded the customer $20 (with rebate checks reportedly signed by Michael Eisner with a side note that read "Sorry"). A similar offer was made internationally after similar lawsuits were filed, and every rebate was strictly awarded in American dollars. Considering the strength of the American dollar internationally in 1992, this had varied effects around the world. This was one of the biggest flops in Walt Disney Home Video history and ultimately resulted in four protest marches outside both Disneyland and all three Disney World parks, three resignations, two firings, one suicide, and a record drop in Disney stock that lasted for the space of a month. An offer to purchase Disney made by Crédit Lyonnais was seriously entertained. When asked about the incident, Roy E. Disney told CNBC, "If Uncle Walt were still alive, he'd have fired the entire home entertainment management team and started over. He'd be steaming mad. I'm steaming mad, and my uncle's dead."
I own nothing. The story you have just read is absolutely fabricated by me. In other words, it was written for entertainment purposes only and is not true in the slightest.

No, this is not made for kids. Would I ever make anything for kids? I don't care what COPPA says. If parents can't control what their kids are watching, it's up to them, not to the whole community. I am not responsible for your children. Besides, kids will want to see actual Disney content on KZitem, not some person's idea of rewriting Disney video history.
