Today I thought we could have a think about the Cloud Era and what it means to embrace and migrate cloud applications.
Early on in the cloud era, all the messaging was around ease of use, reduced capex, and reduced admins. There were promises of closing data centers, reducing staff, and pay as you go.
The thing is, a lot of those promises didn't come true.
The real benefits of cloud were not in the initial pitch, they were in what happened after early adoption. Cloud native apps, API-based automation, infrastructure as code, and net new services. Those were the real benefits of cloud, and we only realize this in retrospect.
Ultimately cloud isn't a place, it's a process. It's not a where, it's a how. It's not a noun, it's a verb.
