Cool project, but you do know that the term "Mic Activator" is trademarked by Cloud Microphones and that the circuit design and other features of the CL-1 are covered by multiple patents, yes?

I don't think trademarks and circuit design patents matter if you just make a gadget for yourself. If homeboy decided to start selling his gadget, calling it the Loudlifter Mic Activator, he might have a couple of problems. However... even then... I think that as long as he calls it something like the Atlas DMGB - (Dynamic Microphone Gain Boost), I don't even think he'd have to change a single resistor value; he could "copy" the circuit down to the last miliOhm. He just could not copy the form factor. i.e. silk-screen, logo, blue powder coat, and maybe even the metal enclosure. If you look at the Guitar pedal industry, there are essentially ~10 "circuits" out there, and everyone is just changing the name, case, names for the knobs, and that's about it. As far as I know, you can copyright print material, i.e. an actual graphic of the circuit schematic, CAN be copyright protected... but the concept is nothing more than a collection of capacitors, resistors, and chips. If the inventor developed some new component or even a new process for assembling the device... that can be patented... but... "I bought a bunch of chips, and made a thing!" does not allow for an intellectual property claim. Of course... this doesn't stop companies from bringing suits. And big companies try to sue little companies into the ground all the time. So... anyway... this response is 10 times longer than your OP. Ha ha ha. I have a legal background and got carried away.
