Nice to see someone else try these things out before we make our own choices, so thank you for that😀

Good video Dave , iv'e been looking at heaters to put on our system just to keep it stable through winter , be interesting to see how much it costs you without being cheeky! They are easy to fit , not to big and easy to use . Great update keep safe buddy , have a great week!

Hi Mark. So, the pond is timber framed, foil insulated and in a cold garage that’s around 8 degrees. Currently holding the tank at 18 degrees. My smart plug is stating around 80p - £1 per day to run 👍🏼

Great video again Dave 👍👍 I have the Cloverleaf 2kw and did try to run it on my pond for a while, but it was costing me over £7 a day in the cold weather, so it had to come off 🥴🥴 I've been told they were originally designed for hot tubs, not ponds lol. But for a fry tank, should be fine mate. I did have a lot of trouble with the stat on mine as several other people did as well, so keep an eye on it mate. I had it set to 13c which worked fine for a few days, but then I came down one morning and the pond was 17c, so it had been running all night 😮😮 so I put it on a separate stat, so it controlled the pond temp and had the Cloverleaf stat on full, which worked fine. I would also put yours on a power meter, just so you know exactly what its costing mate, but yours shouldn't be too bad on your fry tank. Fry look awesome mate 👍👍👌 take care and stay warm, Terry.

Thanks Terry, apologies for the late reply. KZitem likes to hide the notifications from me 🙄 Got it hooked up to the power meter now. Costing around a pound a day to heat to 18 degrees (I haven’t told the wife) The thermostat like you say, is somewhat sloppy with a degree of spin the wheel like precision 😂 Hope you are well and it’s not to cold 👍🏼

Excellent video so thank you, I have just purchased a cloverleaf 1kw (got a bargain brand new for £70, guy needed a 2kw one) What are the running costs like as another video I watched said it came on and off every 45 seconds? If this is the case I was going to put on a timer to reduce cost. Any further info much appreciated.

Hi Dave, great video, nice to see your cold and the fish are getting toasty 😆, I to wear a hat all winter inside the house to, I look like Benny from Crossroads 😆, I am now looking to start my grow on pond, going to start cutting the tarmac on my nicked part of my drive soon, just pondering on what filter to get, budget may go to an easy pod, was contemplating getting a filtreau drum, anyway your up and running nice one. More fish coming to your new pond.

Great to hear you are starting one too - it’s great fun! I’ve a friend with the filtreau drum and it’s been faultless! You can’t go wrong with an eazypod, smashing little filter.

Nice one Dave. Very similar to the set up I had on my temp pond. Same pump and heater. Work well. I got an Ink Bird so I can manage the temp remotely. It's superb. 👍🏻

Nice little heater and will be interesting to see how it continues to perform and what the running costs are. Wouldn't be financially viable here though due to our winter temperatures. Was -34C here yesterday morning although it did warm up to -14C by the end of the day. It's a wonderful -4C this morning ... hooray. 😀 Great tip on cutting the hose tails. 👍🏻

Hi Dave, nice update and would be interesting to see how much it costs 🙈 Thanks for the tip on leaving stuff in the basket. I put all the materials I needed to build a filter house! Can’t wait for it arrive but then realised it’s my card that is registered 🤷♂️…only kidding 👍

The banana has made no difference to the electricity 😉😉 The heater is working out at around 90p per day to keep the pond at 18 degrees 👍🏼

Why did you get the 1kw version instead of the 2kw one? Would've heated it up quicker so wouldn't need to be on as much 👍

hi ya dave, are you worried about the droplets forming on the underneath of cover? causing a build up of bacteria and mold, then dripping back to the pond.
@edenkoipond
Жыл бұрын
I whip the covers off every evening and give them a hose and wipe down. Noticed after the first week the underside was beginning to look slightly dirty. Now the rooms warmed up and temps are more equal I’m seeing less of a problem. I questioned condensation on covers with a few experienced guys/dealers as I was a bit concerned. They used a good analogy, an indoor fish tank is exactly the same, condensation can always be found on the underside. Providing it’s kept clean it should never be a problem 👍🏼

Look up an ink bird controller i use one on my 2kw turn the cloverleaf up to max and control temps on the inkbird also if your cloverleaf thermostat fails like mine did you can by pass that and just use ink bird controller as a thermostat anyways 👍🏻

hi dave try using one of the plug in meters and you will be surprised at how much they cost to run. i used a 1 kw cloverleaf heater for six months on a 300 gallon grow on in the shed keeping the koi at 23 to 24 deg. feeding loads of saki hikari growth and using day light lights. dont get me wrong the koi grew very well. but i moved them on cheap because most of them were crap. i was thinking that i might get a couple of good ones out of the bunch but im not that lucky. so to cut a long story short it cost me 500 quid to grow the koi and practically give them away. This year i have saved my money and going to by a nice koi in the spring. ps i did enjoy feeding the greedy ugly little buggers and watching them get big and fat LOL

Have to agree, the whole fry thing is great for fun but no money in it at all. I want this more for growing on tosai for my own pond. At the moment, it’s costing me around 90p - £1 per day to keep them at 18 degrees.
