The noise is due to the reduce of weight on the flywheel. This makes the bike faster on the gas but increases the unbalance at idle speed. This cause the 2 clutch plates to make more and more noise when the clutch is disengaged. The bike is still OK. The newer clutch is completely different and only has one plate.

Thanks for posting. I have a 2003 California 1100 titanium. Are these transmissions all interchangeable?? Was wondering if I can do something like that to mine Ty

It is not very difficult to take the bike apart. The workshop manual is very detailed. I leave the new clutch placement up to the dealer. Then I put the bike together again.

I can recommend the bike. Things to consider are problems with the dashboard and the play in the gearbox which makes the bike a bit restless at low speed.

Temporarily discount of 50% on used parts. Total for clutch and gearbox was 700 euro.

OK, so this is like an automotive style clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing? I've been looking for a motorcycle transmission to put behind a Kubota diesel in a Goldwing frame

Hello Frans,Very nice work! My Special Sport is making the identical sound. What parts in the clutch group failed to create this situation? I see that the top hat on my thrust bearing is in about 3mm. After adjusting my clutch pivot arm 3 times I though there might be a problem, but after removing the thrust bearing, it does not look too bad. Where did you see the failure?

Hella Frans, my Breva does the same and only has 8k km in it. I plan to take it apart this winter to inspect and repair if needed. Is it a very difficult job to do? Does it require special tools from Guzzi? I am an engineer do some repairs and maintenance on my bike like valves, brakes, fluids...The answer would highly appreciated!

Good job!! My Breva makes the same noise. Did you find anything wrong with any of the old parts? Thank You!!

The clutch-noise gets worse and worse when the bike is used a lot. I replaced the plates after 70.000 KM and then the noise was gone but it started again after a while and now the bike was at 140.000 KM. The engine is still good and when I needed to repair an oil leakage I decided to replace the clutch with a newer version. I also had to replace the gearbox. I am very happy with the result.

Frans Steenhuis Thank you, does yours make a clunking noise when taking off?

I do not understand what you mean with clunking? The Breva looks much smoother with the new clutch and gearbox.

Frans Steenhuis sorry, my Breva only has 5k and it was bought used, mine makes the same clutch sound as in your video. When leaving a stop sign it sounds like and banging ratcheting noise until the clutch is fully released. I thought it might be normal until I watched your video. Any ideas? Could you take another video of what it sounds like now? Or maybe one taking off from stop? Thank you!!

The parts to change are the clutch and the gearbox, but also the clutch cylinder on the gearbox. Try to find these second-hand from the 8V models.

No! Their machining is awful, original parts are expensive and faulty and you can get more power for less money whcih will be cheaper aswell in the long run because you wont have to replace as much. Fuck Guzzi

I’ve owned a 2007 Griso since new and it’s been a reliable motorcycle. Only 9400 on the odometer so far.
