This Line does have alot of Commercial Potential. Could try to move some goods along the lines. Could at least bring some money into railroad at a least. besides the Ride on the train.

The line doesn't connect to the mainline railroad network. It was cut years ago.

Looks like on Google Earth, they would have to reinstall some grade crossings and reclaim a right of way through a parking lot to reconnect with another railroad.

You need to find out who really owns that right of way. Just because it's got abandoned doesn't mean ownership transferred too necessarily. That's where the fight needs to begin.

I've been hearing that some of your railroad right-of-way was removed along a reservoir for a rail trail did anything sound suspicious to y'all when y'all got word that you had to close operations along that stretch?
@train5974

We never did regular passenger rides along that stretch. We knew for years that trail was a possibility. Track had to be repaired at that section.

From Kingston Plaza up to Route 28A at 35:47 is still in operation. That's as far as CMRR's current lease permits them to go. All track west of Basin Road at 49:07 has been torn up for the Ashokan Rail Trail. CMRR hopes to gain access to the remainder of track to Basin Road so they can extend their train rides, and once that's done they hope to regain access to the Ashokan Reservoir so they can bring trail riders up to a new station at West Hurley (right around 50:40) as well as run sunset dinner trains and other adult-oriented trains up to the Glenford Dike.

The whirring motor and airy whistle sounds of a GE 45 ton are probably the only railroad related sounds that hit home with me. I’ve spent countless hours over the years sitting in one. Oh and I admit to having hopped on the front of one moving a couple times. Not something I’d like to do again with those tiny steps... Y’all should really stop to let guys back on from the front. 😬😬

I guess the real question that remains to be answered is who really owns that right of way? That would have to be researched and if they indeed did that illegally, there's one heck of a lawsuit waiting to be filed ;)
