CN C74591 (Baldwin, IL to Centralia, IL/BNSF) is coming off the St. Louis Sub and onto the Centralia Sub at DuQuoin. These Baldwin trains only have a couple of years left until the power plant is shuttered for good (the closing has been extended by 12 months).
I worked at Baldwin Generating Station for 15 months in 09-10 during the scrubber construction. Mainly on Unit 3, which is the south stack. Everything is numbered and lettered from the north. So, Unit 1 is the northern stack, Unit 2 is the middle, and 3 the south one. And, I worked an 8-week outage there on Unit 3 in the spring of 13, as well.
Before Unit 3 was shuttered (it was an oddball unit and the last to be built), BNSF had eleven trains for this plant. While one was being unloaded, another was waiting to unload. A constant flow of Powder River Basin coal. Baldwin used to use Southern Illinois coal from area Peabody mines, and they switched to PRB in the early nineties.
