Really cool to see this kayak in more detail. Love how you modified it into 3 pieces too!

Nicely done, both cockpit install and the 3-part split. I have not yet seen any declination of a sectional 1-person shrike to convert it to a tandem shrike (the middle segment having 2 cockpits)... but might be consideroing this on the longer terme ;-)

Thanks, but it's not my design. You can get the plans from CNC kayaks.

Those are beautiful to look at. They're just not that great for most actual paddling.

It can be very subjective. Kayaks are designed and built according to thier intended purposes and as long as they are used within that parameter, it will sound logical regardless of thier looks.

@@Joeyapwaichong That's the problem. They were designed for men of short stature to hunt and fish.

@@wisenber Well, I will not jump into that conclusion. Each qajaq is supposed to be custom-built around individual paddler's measurements of anthropometry. There are no such thing as standard Greenland qajaqs. Many modern designs happened to be copies from specimens collected from native Inuits and may not be suitable for a person with taller stature. Having said that, there are contemporary Greenland kayak designs which suits paddlers of bigger folks like the Greenland-T. These qajat generally have smaller volumes and tighter cockpits compared to modern sea kayaks which many paddlers find them too cramp and uncomfortable. But once you get use to them, they offer very good responses and controls from the paddlers' lower body, which is a joy for edging and rollings. They can be very fun to paddle on light touring on calmer waters when you can chill off by rolling along the way. Having said that, they may be too uncomfortable for long distance multi-day expeditions, but they weren't designed for that in the first place. Likewise, you wouldn't choose a whitewater playboat for multi-day expeditions either. As I mentioned before, each kayak design has its own place where they excel in. Everything is a trade-off. Most problems come from picking the wrong boat for the intended purposes.

@@Joeyapwaichong I don't have a problem with the design. As I mentioned, they're aesthetically pleasing to the eye. They're also one of the best rolling platforms out there. I understand that they're built to body measurements, but I also understand the limitations of scaling a hull design. I built and Aleut based boat using lumber and green wood I processed myself. It doesn't compare to a West Greenland when it comes to rolling. However, it does excel in speed, tracking, cargo and rough seas. While I can do a few types of rolls, I don't pursue that enough to warrant a purpose built rolling machine. I have a number of other kayaks as well from whitewater plastic to FSK composite to a folding Klepper. Yours is certainly a work of art. Certainly appropriate for Greenland festivals.
