Nick, you should do a long term coaching video. Take like 5 athletes and train them and see how they would improve. This could be virtual or in person. They could do vlogs/video diaries. Have them set short term and long term goals and see where they end up after 10 weeks.

Numbers game. 1000 students, we had 25 go out for the boys' team. The coach was a brother of an Olympian, a state champ in his own right. We gave T shirts to students who would run 500 miles over the summer. Top runner was 4:26 in the mile. 1:58 in the half. We did a 19:20 4x1600m relay. 8 runners under 5 minutes. Qualified for state in Cross Country. District cross country meet our #7 runner beat every one else' #4 runner. Yes, that formula works. We didn't have soccer to compete with but Football we were 2nd in the district, basketball we were 2nd in district, baseball we were competitive. Lots of great athletes everywhere. Had 3 over 24 feet in the long jump. As a group, we ran every road race we could over the summer and in the off season. We had fun on our training runs. The interval workouts were brutal. We ran the Dallas Marathon 3 weeks after the state Cross Country race. If we had you doing all comer youtube videos, we all would have shown up for them. Many of us ran NAIA cross country in college. No one did Division 1. No one ever went to the Olympics. But it was the most memorable thing about high school.

It’s pretty funny(also tough), my school has almost 4000 people but we have almost no runners on our team except for me and this junior. We’re both pretty good though, especially him. I run a 4:28 and he runs a 4:17😳

1000 in my HS. Senior year I 'ran' XC and we had ~8 boys and 2 girls, the 2nd only came out because the 1st wanted a girl to run with lol. That was typical of sports at my crap HS. We had a couple of talented runners too but I was NOT one of them. I ran because a friend bugged me and golf was only a club not a sport

My high school had 150ish and I was the only person some years. I think the biggest team we had was 5 (3 guys and 2 girls). I spent most of my high school career running on my own. Ran a year of university before switching to triathlon. I still mostly train on my own

@@NickSymmondsToo ya know what’s crazy? I finished 2nd at leagues in the 800 this year and it was the hardest I pushed. 2:00.34 in 50-60mph gusting winds. Went from nearly last to 2nd in the last 300. Way slower than my pr, but my proudest moment.

Ask for a sit down meeting with the coach outside of practice. Express your concerns. If they don't listen then then you should have a conversation with the AD.
