G'Day from Australia, I enjoyed watching your video on 18th century fishing. I'm a keen fly fisher but enjoy all forms of fishing. I coarse fished for many years and even used a 20 foot bamboo pole with waxed Irish linen main line and a short length of light mono--didn't have access to natural sinew. Float was made from a cut down wine cork and the hook was a modern eyed hook---again I couldn't find any spade shanked hooks. It worked well for small trout and roach. After watching your video, it has encouraged me to try this type of fishing again---it may take me a little while to locate all the little items, as we have moved house twice and there are still boxes we have not emptied. This year(2023) I'm taking up black powder shooting again after a 30 year break. Used to go to ranges as well as taking part in living history and reenactments---- Australian and American colonial/fur trader period and American Civil War. I've still got the firearms and most of the accessories but am missing some items like the really nice craftsman made powder horn that I foolishly sold. Your brother has much better balance and confidence than I have for walking out on that log. I would have ended up in the drink! Thanks again for your video and for the encouragement it has given me to again take something I should never have given up in the first place. Mind your top knot! Cheers, Steve

Nice day out Josh and I can remember doing that when I was a lad. 🙂Only small Bluegill, but still, if you were starving.....a couple of those on the coals would keep you alive. When I read the title, I was confused a bit, until I realised it was misspelt. Coarse fishing refers to 'rough' fishing with a simple pole, float and line, as opposed to fine fishing with expensive split cane rod, fly line and reel. Coarse fishing is BIG in the UK, although it tends to be focused on expensive and extensive tackle, instead of just a relaxing time at the creek. After all, isn't that the essence of it all? 😉

Thanks, I will correct the title.

Good stuff, Josh. Thought this was going to be a "catch and cook" episode. I did that at a local lake a few years ago. The handful of other anglers around must've thought I was nuts! I have to figure out a better way to forge period hooks. It seems mine are always too large.

@@SOvideography Quite some time ago I bought some spade end hooks from Keith Burgess that he had on his trade blanket at a black powder rendezvous here in Australia. Not sure what safe place I've put them in! I've also watched Keith's video on cold forging fish hooks. Must have a go. Cheers, Steve
