So useful !!! I only discovered the C2C on YT yesterday and have been binge watching. I did wonder how one would gear up for a UK walk. Thanks so much for making this video. There are so many tips and ideas I would not have thought of. Bring a total novice to hikes, it is a learning curve. Yes, about losing the body weight. That is step one. I have 40 kg to lose, as the last time I did any sort of walking, I weighed 60 kg (20 years ago!)

You’re welcome 👍 I’ve done a few different gear vids for long distance hiking plus vids of the hikes themselves. Check out my channel if you like. Good luck! Justin 🥾

Thanks for the video. Lots of great tips and advice. I'd like to ask about your walking boots. I've got a pair of Scarpas the same as you. And I find they're not as shock absorbent as my Merrell MOABs. In fact my feet suffer after an 8 mile walk in them. Maybe I need some extra cushioning. Could I ask which inserts you bought for your trip? Thanks.

Thanks Paul, I use CUSH'N'STEP insoles from Go Outdoors. Cheapest ones, about £7. Will make a brilliant difference to you. However, they will raise your foot about 2-4mm at the toes and about 6-8mm at the heel (rough estimates). If your boots only just fit you now, then you will get rubbing and blisters. If your boots are spacious already, you will be ok. I recommend testing insoles you have already at home. For example, in other trainers or boots, before you buy new ones. Just swap them out and go for a decent walk, at least a mile. If still comfortable, go further. Before the C2C, I did loads of sock + insole combination tests, also different distances and eventually a 17-mile training hike with my rucksack. I did over 100 miles training in lots and lots of small walks in my Scarpa Terras. Hardly had a problem on the C2C. Amazing how many people can't be bothered to do this in advance, and then suffer like hell....

Hello, what camping and cooking equipment did you take please?

Hi Simon, I stayed in youth hostels and B&Bs, so I didn't need that stuff on the C2C.

Thanks for the vid. Wife and I are hiking the c2c starting April 26 so will need warmer clothes, especially camping. Watched your walk from 2018 and many others to get an idea of what to expect and what to carry. Most of our kit is ultralight and has been well tested apart from our frogtogs wet gear (so far) Can't wait to hike in cool weather as this summer in Australia has been horrendous.

Sounds like you are well prepared. I'm planning lightweight camping thru hiking myself this year, something new for me. Hope all was ok for you down under. Enjoy the cold North of England!

We bought shirts in a small shop in Robin Hood's Bay right at the street going down to the water. A very nice one with the path printed on it. Also, the shirt that you were wearing, I think I saw in the pub in Danby Wiske. I'm going all sentimental thinking back to last year... If you're in the Lake District in the second half of July, maybe we run into each other. We'll stay in Grasmere for a few nights to explore the fells... Cheers

Thanks Stefan 👍 Yes, I thought some of the little shops in RHB must sell something but I wasn’t feeling very well so I didn’t stay long. Also, I missed the Danby Wiske day, only returning in February when the pub was closed! We go to the Lakes every year. Magic. Keep in touch! 👍🏔🥾

You might already know this Justin, you can save a little bit weight if you change your plastic water bottle over to a smart water bottle as it's possible to back flush your sawyer mini filter with a smart water bottle, so you can leave the syringe part at home. Atb Glenn

Yep, I know that one Glenn. It’s a good tip. I used 2 smart bottles and left my Sawyer syringe and straw at home. I also carry a Smart water sports cap for just that purpose! Every few grams count! Cheers, Justin 👍

+1 cheapskate here! My old boots where Hi-tec and broke on me (steel plate in the sole snapped, wondered what was digging into my foot) at the bottom of the Devils staircase on the WHW, cant complain though, got 10 years out of them! New boots are again Hi-tec, cant complain at the quality for the price. You're going to need a bigger bag this year!

Gotta love kit that lasts years! This vid is long overdue, some of that kit has already been upgraded, but we love it don’t we? Kit tinkering . . . 😀

Always be prepared! is a good moto in gathering ones equipment for a 190 mile hill-walking trip. With the ever changing weather over C2C route, you just never know how a walking day is going to pan out. Lightweight stuff is always useful.

Lightweight gear and body is the key to really enjoying hiking to the full. Every kg you get rid of beforehand makes a real difference, and it doesn't have to be expensive.
