@@gcntech A combination of things, the presentation, filming and editing is not rushed. Manon prenets in a way where she gives information on the current tech and engages interest in the next thing, she uses pauses well allowing each sentence to be interesting and understood. Manon uses irony when presenting tyre pressures, the teams know.... The content is linked well to a race where tech and bike set up are important and interesting. Also Manon uses what is called in my work "total communication" where her words, expression, posture, movement and timing work together to build a narrative including the technical content. To hear the way Josh Poertner of SILCA tells it, they are factoring in wet v dry, the wind direction of the day, etc to work out which will be the critical sectors that day, and aim to arrive at the optimal pressure for those sectors. According to a GCN video from six years ago, the road bike was slowest over the cobbles (28 mm tyres), 'cross bike second, and MTB was fastest - by up to 10 seconds depending on the rider. However, it's hard to pin down which variable between the road bike and MTB made the biggest difference. Geometry may not be a big player, but I'm thinking that suspension on the MTB was most important aspect of getting over those cobbles faster, mainly because of having more control and confidence.
@richchilds8173
Жыл бұрын
I would bet it was the skinny tires in vogue at that time on road bikes (usually 23 mm) and the high pressures they ran. Now the trend is toward wider tires with lower pressures, which would suit the cobblestones better making the road bike more competitive there, while still maintaining their advantage on the tarmac.
@jonhume6051
Жыл бұрын
Over the cobbles absolutely, the bike with some form of improved suspension that lets the rider get the power down and control the bike is fastest. If race was over a larger amount of cobbles (it's about a fifth currently) would probably see teams' putting more focus on that area..
@marctestarossa
Жыл бұрын
By all means, I just don't understand why this cobbly cobble race is such a big thing. To me it's just awful for the riders, for the bikes, it's dangerous, there are loads of accidents every single time and I just don't get it. Why is this 'road' surface that is in no way suitable for riding a bike on it at high speeds such a thing. It should be banned, it's not safe, it's not fun, it's only great for people who like to see people getting hurt. Rubbish
