People really need to stop blaming coaches ! I’ve never seen as much coach changes as ever with this new generation. Serena Williams has only ever had 2 major coaches, as with Venus Williams (Venus maybe more but those were hitting partners). I don’t think running from one coach to another is going to solve the problem. Sometimes “YOU” might just be the problem. Ask Sakarri and Raducanu or even Rune how their experience has been.

Well that's how it works in any sport. In NFL NBA NHL they fire the coach and bring in someone new and keep trying. But those are team sports where team coordination and strategy matters so coach has more impact. Tennis is an individual sport so I'm not sure if coach makes that much of a difference. They can only give pointers but the execution is up to the player.

Naomi is a great player but needs to add more variety. Just like Sabalenka, in the early years was just one dimensional. Now Sabalenka is unrecgonisable to former years with alot of variety. Naomi needs to add a slice to change up the pace now and again. With her powerful forehand she needs to use that to pick the spots down the line or cross court and sneak into net now and again to take a volley. Ive watched her game very closely and in my opinion, she gets tired if the point goes on too long and she doesn't dictate from the begining. Setting up the point at least once a game, to execute a volley would save her alot of energy, and over the course of a match hold onto that strength she needs to win a match

My concern was that she was just going to show up and do a 9 to 5 work routine like some players and didn't care to go further. She looks fit and is playing more matches. I agree, the Gauff coach change is overdue. When I look at her play I see Andy Roddick and he only won 1 grand slam under Brad Gilbert (2003) US Open. And I know Coco does Not want to end up like that. However, Brad Gilbert is a good coach he just may not be right for Coco at this time. Andre Agassi won 6 grand slams wit him. I think Coco needs to change her game a little; come to the net more like Andre did. That baseline slugging it out is not working. Gauff is an awesome player she just needs the right coach. Take Jennifer Capriati when she got her act together and the right coach you couldn’t do nothing with her. She won 3 grand slams and beat Graf to win the gold medal in ‘92 Olympics. And Graf was not an easy opponent. Coco needs to weed out the noise and get better focus if she wants to win another grand slam.

I don’t think Brad was a good fit for the team. He is clearly a great coach but the coaching relationship needs to have great chemistry and I believe that’s the challenge. All the players talk about the importance of having the right people around them. Coco is very coachable as is evident from her run last year. I just believe there were issues among the coaching staff that did not help Coco as she seems to internalize things. If things were good between her & BG I don’t think she would’ve continue to add people to her team. Btw, JC is her other coach who she brought on ahead of Roland Garros; again signaling that maybe there was an issue between her & BG. She’s always said he’s knowledgeable I just don’t think he was the right fit. Just take a look at the people who left her team once he got involved…do I think she will now bounce back?! That remains to be seen but having the right people around you can definitely help with the mentality both on and off court.

She said most players had come to Roland Garros and left without any trophy, but Coco was walking away with two. Stupid haters will call that a failure because they were both runner up trophys 🙄 Coco needs a coach who will give her confidence. She is an outstanding player, but the pressure of being great only multiplies with the more success you attain. Rennae Stubbs would be a good addition to Coco's team, but she also needs a psychologist to help her deal with the people who want to say she has a problem with her forehand - these people are quiet when she wins a 40 rally game, but lo and behold she misses a forehand and yep she has a problem, not withstanding the fact that every singles player that loses a match, which is 99% of players, loses it because they missed a forehand 💡

In my humble view, Coco now plays like Wozniacki 2.0, so there are no weapons; she could be ok with tennis and be a top 15 for the next 10 years. She needs a technician coach to continue her progress. Finally, could somebody fix the forehand and go back to her 2 heavy kick serves and no more double faults. I do not think she will ever have a serve that will bail her out. Osaka is hitting great, but the field is more challenging, post and thanks to Serena the WTA players are learning how to redirect power with smaller strokes. The days that Osaka can just run over players are over, and she needs to learn how to earn points by outsmarting her opponents, something is not easy for her.

Yes and Yes! They both made the right decision to change coaches. Brad Gilbert wasn't the answer for Coco. His recommendation that she ✋ playing doubles was terrible. Doubles is why she won the US Open last year. This year 19 double faults and 54 unforced errors in a match she still had a chance to win. Naomi Osaka needs a coach like Patrick someone who will teach her how to seal the deal for sets and matches. Perhaps he will convince her to play doubles to improve her net game. Naomi is playing good tennis but lacks the skill and confidence to close matches. I watched her hit 54 winners including 16 Aces in just 3 sets against the No. 1 player in the world who was playing at a high level hitting 37 winners herself. Although Naomi served for the match at 5-2 she lost the game and match going away! Losing 5 straight games.

I don't think it is anything to do with the coach. When payers go on the court, it is their responsibility to go out there and face their opponents...play what they practice on in the practice sessions... Gauff will be a one slam wonder... Gauff won that major title because Saba got overwhelmed by the crowd...😮😮😮

Coco's problem is not completely Gilbert. I think the criticisms of Gilbert were well placed, however, even with a better Serve and Forehand Gauff will still lose a lot of matches. Why? Her footwork and court position is too defensive and she doesn't hit on the rise enough and aggressively. And, all of this has to do with her emotional method of playing tennis. She needs to take up something to handle managing her emotions. Maybe Buddism? Maybe Karate or Aikido? Something to help her to mentally attack moments of fear and cut through them. Thus, I expect problems from this Brad Gilbert separation because he is great at mental toughness which is at the core of Coco's issues. These hitting issues are problems but without the mental, she is not going to win. She must be calmer when she plays to pay attention and have rally discipline.

I like Coco and Brad splitting. Maybe Sascha Bajin or Rennae Stubbs would be good for her. But I still ask WHAT has changed from just a year ago? It has to be burnout or something more. As for the Naomi/Patrick pairing, I can't call it. Lol. I'll just have to watch and see how this will unfold like everyone else. Rybakina is still needing a coach too. Its a lot going on! 😲🧐🎾

Honestly they are putting too much pressure on her to be an all time great but maybe she is not and all time great but a great player. At 20 years old she has made it to 2 grand slam finals and won 🥇 one and has won many titles and ranked number 3 in the world. That’s not bad. If she wins 5-10 grand slams in her career it’s not bad it’s great actually which she can.

In what world is she ranked #3? you should keep up with tennis more. She's number 6 and that's with a tour where 80% have a problem staying healthy and/or motivated to play the entire year.

@@johnnythunder196 If you watch tennis like you said you would know she just became number 6 because she did not defend he US open points which dropped her. If you read what I said I read her accomplishments which she had been world number 3 since the Australian open this year when she made the semifinal. Presently being world number 6 and a 20 year old many have not even accomplished that.

@@clintinb5219 You finally realized she's #6....wow congratulations! She's #6 because of chronically soft draws & never sustaining an injury in 6+ years on tour (where 90% of the tour misses time each year due to physical injury or psychological issues) i.e. she plays in a very weak era. Navarro & Zheng are superior talents & will pass her soon. Frankly I don't expect her to regain a top 3 spot as other players with much higher ceilings like Diana S & Mirra A are improving rapidly & should be top 10 mainstays next season.

@@johnnythunder196I didn’t just realize she was number 6 I was stating what she has accomplished like reaching 2 grand slams and winning one and being world number three all at the age of 20, no matter what that is an accomplishment many have never achieved not to talk about a 20 year old, she just needs to keep improving. She turned pro at 14 years old 6 years ago so name me one person on tour at 14 dominating on tour presently? Like is about growth and improvement it’s up to her to put in the hard work like others on the tour, that’s a choice she must make on her own.

This sounds like a sidenote, but possibly it encapsulates an important aspect. More than once (a euphemism for nearly as often I've watched) BG was cacooned in sunprotective clothing, and when he clapped or intervened it seemed to be triggered by a camera that was put on him. In other situations I looked like someone who felt embarrassed for her errors. It was an awful display.

She is going through a bit of a rough patch at the moment. I think her psychology in game mode is a little off and I can understand why after she did so well. Ok now onto the coach. When player of the ability of Coco when this go wrong the coach will always be the first to get the chop. That's fine because at this level it's the tennis player that it's all about not the coach so drop the coach and reset. She will get back to winning ways and I am not worried about her. I am worried about her psychology and that's one area he has to get sorted and she will get back to the top.

Time will tell, in two years for Coco. I believe her results from Olympics onwards were due to stress from defending yet the blame got pushed on Brad. Coco's level outside that us open 23 swing has been the same for 3 years now. Osaka was probably told what she wanted to hear by Patrick, aside from Serena he never helped anyone win a slam.

Don't be surprised if the US open is Coco's peak and that was right after she hired Brad. The US open was also capriati, Stephens, andreescu, raducanu's peak. Younger does not guarantee improvement. As opponents get used to playing you over time they figure you out. This is what is also happening to Coco. Opponents understand her game now having scouted her more. It's like a pitcher going through a lineup the third time. The advantage goes to the batter

Coco is still a baby and needs a lot of guidance. She has the talent and just needs some good fine tuning, and she'll be ok. Many a time, fans are too hard on these kids. Not all these young phenoms are going to be special, and that's ok. It's no easy task playing sports at that level, and the fact that they are competitive, most times, is admirable.

Hallelujah for Coco... I never gave credit to Gilbert for the US open win. She won the US open because Aryna Sabalenka played badly under pressure. If Sabalenka had played her game, Coco would have lost. That win ugly jive is crap for Coco! I really hope they are smart enough not to hire Nick Kyrioros. Ugh! No one should hire him for a coach! I agree about the mentality of Coco, but a good coach can help with that also. I think Patrick is perfect for Naomi!! He has a lot to prove, and he is going to do it. Trust me! He is arrogant but that doesn't mean he is a bad coach. I hope Naomi is tough enough to take his direction. I wish he could coach Coco too. Coco gives social media comments to much power. I wish she were stronger on this end. She has to learn to ignore the negative comments about hee. If she can't forget them, then she needs to get off social media
