This boss took a lot less time than I expected.
No matter how you’re playing the game, Gilded Hunter is a DPS race. You want him to get the fewest number of rages possible, as he’s much faster and more dangerous when raging.
The optimal number is, of course, zero, which I managed here (in spirit if not in letter). The original plan was to open with a Swallow Cutter, hit with four light attacks, then activate Final Journey just before using a Swallow Cutter to deal about 10k, knocking his HP to extremely low levels. This would guarantee I could kill after a single rage, as he takes increased damage when knocked down. As it turns out, with properly timed attacks and Precision, you can knock him down with the second Swallow Cutter before he rages, and kill him before he can act in rage. I didn’t realize this until I got a nearly-perfect first phase, so I suppose you could say this was an accident - because I won the first time I triggered a knockdown here. It was technically lucky that his first action after raging wasn’t to dodge away, but he was still one hit from death, so the only difference would have been killing him a few seconds slower.
For those wondering, you cannot activate Final Journey earlier to make the fight even faster. Stagger is built up per hit, and as far as I can tell isn’t related to damage. You’d trigger rage earlier, before you’d landed as many hits.
One note for those who might be attempting a similar challenge - you can see me miss a swing at 0:22, this is because a second hit there will always flinch him, allowing a third, so I always go for it. It’s safe even if he dodges away. The only other notable thing about this strategy is that, not wanting to have slow rolls the whole fight, I opted to use Alleviation Night Thorn (or Dawn Thorn, whatever) so that I can have normal movement with my giant hammer.
I will say, keeping distance with this hammer is something of a liability against a roughly human-sized boss. It’s much harder to read Gilded Hunter’s telegraphs from a distance - but it’s not like I want to spend much time far from him anyway, and it seems the feeling is mutual.
