WOW UNCLE JESSE, DIDNT HAVE TO CALL ME OUT LIKE THAT! Code Vein is technically a spin-off, but also mostly its own thing. The composer of Code Vein does some good music, and a lot of his music has kind of similar vibes that make you go "Oh, its Go Shiina isn't it?"

I played Code Vein last year, and I was not expecting to like it as much as I did. It's best summed up as "Anime Dark Souls with more story, but less polish", and despite knowing that going into it, I was still surprised how much I liked it.

Code Vein is such a strange game. Some things it does well (combat, partner system, putting together blood codes and mix/matching skills), others it doesn't (difficulty balancing issues, framerate stutter, area layout). There's some jank and obvious cut corners here and there, but I can't help but like this weird little vampire game where you basically create your ultimate edgelord or waifu, collect a TONNE of unique powers that you can also equip as armor, and fight an endless sea of mutant vampire horrors in a "Dark Souls-esque" style dungeon crawler set in a post apocalyptic future. The OST is pretty cool too, if a bit too "anime" at times, but it's part of the charm so I roll with it. It's not my favorite game but I'm fond of it.

omg definitely did not expect to see CODE VEIN here, but I love it! A lot of underappreciated VGM gems in this game, especially tracks like A Knights Return or Requiem: Tranquility and Light. I'm such a sucker for the organ and choir. Oh, and Amber Journey is one of my favorite vocal game tracks ever. And who could forget Memory of the Lost? Beautiful, so very beautiful piano/vocal piece. To answer your question about the rest of the OST: it's pretty much like that consistently throughout the soundtrack, the string, choir, organ and percussion arrangement in this OST is just SO GOOD. Huge recommendation for everyone who doesn't know them to check these out. It's on Spotify!

There are some parts that remind me so much of Final Fantasy, if I heard this for the first time and didn't know that it wasn't I might mistake it. It is also a very unique sound and I appreciate the beat changing throughout to take us on a fun ride of various emotions. Is Code Vein's OST considered underrated? I remember it being shockingly good. I also have to add, Code Vein hit me way harder in the feels than I expected. What a fantastic game.

you should REALLY check out some God Eater OST same people behind Code Vein made the God Eater franchise. from GE1 - God and Man (vocal), Approaching Nightmare, Howl of the Wolf, Give Me Power, "Gods Eater", and the main theme Over the Clouds. from GE2 - Deo Volente, Wings of Tomorrow, Ruthless King, Blood Rage, Butterfly's Temptation, End of my Dream, and main theme Fate. from GE3 - main theme Stereo Future, Awakening, Lord of Destruction, Guided by Destiny, We Gotta Go, and Nemisis. it's alot I know but it's well worth it to check this franchise's soundtracks out.

So since I haven't seen any mention, the composer for this one is Go Shiina, and this is very much in his style. He's not the most prolific of composers (I seem to recall seeing somewhere he's not the fastest of creators), but I've yet to hear a bad track from him. He's probably best known for the god eater series, but he also did the best bits of the tales of zestiria soundtrack. ....Which to be fair is probably worth a few reactions itself

Spoilerwarning: Code Vein is a Spinoff of the God Eater series. God Eater is goes in the same direction as the Monster Hunter genre and gameplay wise. Code Vein on the other hand goes more into a Dark Souls direction. Code Vein is basically a post apocalypse with vampires and God Eater is basically what if the monster from the Movie the Thing gets loose and released into the world.

"Is Code Vein a Spin off or an Original Series?" Technically it is a game that is part of the series "God Eater", it is like the Soulsborne games, like how "Dark Souls" and "Bloodborne" are totally different Titles but are actually happening in the same Universe and are following each other

Code Vein is a weird example of a game that provides hints that it is in the universe of another franchise by the same developers but doesn't actually confirm it. There is some pretty decent evidence that it is set in the same universe as the God Eater series, as on the rare occasions you hear or see something from outside of the bubble Code Vein happens in they resemble the large monsters from God Eater.

Code Vein was pretty damn impresive when it puts enough effort, yet it was hold down by bandai's laziness, too many reused God Eater 3 assets(GE3 also was hit by that laziness in a different way) and little care put into the DLC cashgrabs, it was done so dirty by bandai when it could have been much more at the end...but at that time a lot of bandai games felt "unfulfilled" and they still do, as much as I like Tales of Arise it always feels like it could be more.
