It's obvious from the comments below that most Muslims still don't get it! They continue to push on us the Sira and the Hadith as sources for this 7th century period. Yet, these Muslim writings are 200-300 years too late. These coins, however, are from the very time and the very place where Islam supposedly began, and they tell us a completely different story from that of the much later Islamic Traditions. Coins don't lie, whereas much later writings do.

Hi PfanderFilms, I just left this reply under someone else's comment but I figure I should leave it here since I can: I was about to be convinced - but what about the writings of the Armenian bishop Sebeos? From the Wikipedia entry on "Medieval Christian views on Muhammad": Sebeos, a 7th-century Armenian bishop and historian wrote shortly after the end of the first Arab civil war concerning Muhammad, what mostly conforms to the Muslim tradition, "In that period a certain one of them, a man of the sons of Ishmael named Muhammad, a merchant, became prominent. A sermon about the Way of Truth, supposedly at God's command, was revealed to them, and [Muhammad] taught them to recognize the God of Abraham, especially since he was informed and knowledgeable about Mosaic history. Because the command had come from On High, he ordered them all to assemble together and to unite in faith. Abandoning the reverence of vain things, they turned toward the living God, who had appeared to their father, Abraham. Muhammad legislated that they were not to eat carrion, not to drink wine, not to speak falsehoods, and not to commit adultery. He said: 'God promised that country to Abraham and to his son after him, for eternity. And what had been promised was fulfilled during that time when [God] loved Israel. Now, however, you are the sons of Abraham, and God shall fulfill the promise made to Abraham and his son on you. Only love the God of Abraham, and go and take the country which God gave to your father, Abraham. No one can successfully resist you in war, since God is with you.'"[Bedrosian, Robert (1985). Sebeos' History. New York. pp. Chapter 30.] Sebeos knows Muhammad's name and that he was a merchant by profession. He presents a good summary of Muhammad's preaching and the four prohibitions which are mentioned in the Qur'an. From the Wikipedia entry on "Sebeos" Sebeos (Armenian: Սեբեոս) was a 7th-century Armenian bishop and historian. Little is known about the author, though a signature on the resolution of the Ecclesiastical Council of Dvin in 645 reads "Bishop Sebeos of Bagratunis." His writings are valuable as one of the few intact surviving sources that chronicle sixth century Armenia and its surrounding territories.[Hacikyan, Agop; Basmanjian, Bagriel; Franchuk, Edward; Ouzounian, Nourhan (2002). The Heritage of Armenian Literature Volume II. Detroit, Michigan: Wayne State University Press. p. 82.] The history of Sebeos contains detailed descriptions from the period of Sassanid supremacy in Armenia up to the Islamic conquest in 661. His history was published for the first time in 1851 in Istanbul.[Hacikyan, Jack (2002). The Heritage of Armenian Literature: From the sixth to the Eighteenth Century. p. 81.] To him has been attributed the A History of Heraclius, chronicling events from the end of the fifth century to 661. The first section begins with the mythical foundation of Armenia with the Legend of Hyke and Bel, moving to contemporary history with the ascent of Vardan II Mamikonian in 570. From there, he relates the struggles and alliances between Persia and Byzantium. The second section narrates the ascent of a new political and military force, the Ishmaelites (i.e. Arabs). "Twelve peoples representing all the tribes of the Jews assembled at the city of Edessa. When they saw that the Persian troops had departed leaving the city in peace, they closed the gates and fortified themselves. They refused entry to troops of the Roman lordship. Thus Heraclius, emperor of the Byzantines, gave the order to besiege it. When the Jews realized that they could not militarily resist him, they promised to make peace. Opening the city gates, they went before him, and Heraclius ordered that they should go and stay in their own place. So they departed, taking the road through the desert to Tachkastan Arabia to the sons of Ishmael. The Jews called the Arabs to their aid and familiarized them with the relationship they had through the books of the Old Testament. Although the Arabs were convinced of their close relationship, they were unable to get a consensus from their multitude, for they were divided from each other by religion. In that period a certain one of them, a man of the sons of Ishmael named Mahmed, became prominent. A sermon about the Way of Truth, supposedly at God’s command, was revealed to them, and Mahmed taught them to recognize the God of Abraham, especially since he was informed and knowledgeable about Mosaic history. Because the command had come from on High, he ordered them all to assemble together and to unite in faith. Abandoning the reverence of vain things, they turned toward the living God, who had appeared to their father-Abraham. Mahmed legislated that they were not to eat carrion, not to drink wine, not to speak falsehoods, and not to commit adultery. He said: 'God promised that country to Abraham and to his son after him, for eternity. And what had been promised was fulfilled during that time when God loved Israel. Now, however, you are the sons of Abraham, and God shall fulfill the promise made to Abraham and his son on you. Only love the God of Abraham, and go and take the country which God gave to your father Abraham. No one can successfully resist you in war, since God is with you.'" This section describes how Mahmed first established a community comprising Ishmaelites and Jews based on their common descent from Abraham; the Arabs via Ishmael, and the Jews via Isaac. From there, the Ishmaelites made dramatic territorial gains, including their victory over the Sassanian dynasty, and the narrative goes in to the division of the Ishmaelite armies and the beginnings of the First Fitna. He relates these developments to Armenia. He stops with the end of First Fitna, as Muawiyah I makes peace with all. Abd al-Malik reigned as fifth Umayyad Caliph from 12 April 685 - 9 October 705. How do we reconcile these coins with Sebeos' writings? Are they forgeries? Can someone forward this to Jay? Also sorry for some duplication in the post, that's what happens when you copy and paste from different articles but want to present a full picture

Maybe it doesn't matter - maybe the references to Muhammad still come too late to prove that was his name. Maybe by that time the title that the name really is had already sunk in. Maybe the reference to Muhammad is just as consequential as the coins with Zoroastrian imagery that mention him. Whether the reference is early or not maybe doesn't matter because it's not good enough to save Muslim claims. It doesn't jive with or verify the message Muhammad supposedly brought and codified. I'm not an expert on the Quran, in fact, I'm just getting into this - but the history recounted by Sebeos does not sound identical or even very similar to Islamic traditions concerning Muhammad's life. Sebeos' history of Muhammad makes it look like the Jews sought out Arab aid due to their Abrahamic kinship against the Byzantines, and that Muhammad united the pagan Arabs to more or less adopt the Jewish vision & view, as opposed to the Islamic notion that Muhammad was visited by Gabriel and approached the Jews, fighting with them (who had been long-established in Arabia, not exiles from Edessa) after they refused to receive him as a prophet.

The other fundamental stuff is the specific - Crescent and the Star - symbol used throughout modern Islamic society as some sort of holy symbol. Looks like a Zoroastrian symbolism - from the coins you are showing. Can you do research around this also? proving its origin to Persians or some Pagan culture there near Syria, some moon-god (Hubal?). It looks like Abd-al-malik, originally a practising Christian from somewhere around Syria (or one of its sects) had some form of conflict with the Byzantine Emperor - can be theological, political or economic - a hot-headed rebel - dug up some old bedouin mythology of a holy man, from somewhere in the obscure & deep south of the Arabian peninsula - established a new religion (and invented its Prophet as well) for political purpose to secure his Empire. And therefore the Caliphate is central to the ideology. Since then, this political ideology is doing havoc to civilization. - regards from India.

And the most important one about The Doctrine of Mary and The Divinity of Christ. Catholic teaching is deny the atonement. ..she ...( The church) Christ didnt pay the price of death Fully and completly....for sins. Thats why.....they use Mary as the MEDIATOR to God instead of Jesus. Mary is considered immaculate. ...same with islam.. Both these two Faith....believe in PURGATORY AFTER DEATH. Here’s a little history quiz for those who know their history. Once there was a narcissist who convinced himself he had a great destiny. He thought he had a message that would change the world. So he went out and started preaching his message. Eventually he had a book. Lots of people read the book, thought it was amazing, and became a follower. They joined into an army. It was their mission to go forth and conquer the world, by force if necessary. The founder told them they’d meet resistance, and he authorized/endorsed violence to any degree necessary. The army went to battle, slaughtering their enemies, leaving dead bodies in the streets, and using terror to control populations. They sacked entire cities, dethroned rulers, and set themselves up as the government. Anyone who dared oppose was summarily murdered. Eventually the rest of the world had enough, and the resistance grew into a major multi-continental war. Now here’s the quiz. Who is this story about? A) Karl Marx and the Communists B) Adolph Hitler and the Nazis C) Robespierre and the French Revolution D) Mohammad and Islam E) All of the above

The impression I have been getting is that in reality Arab Christians fell gradually diverged further and further from orthodoxy, until the time of Abdul Malik, who then through invention and consolidation solidified the degenerate ideas into a coherent religion of its own. I am getting the impression that very much of it was invented directly by Abdul Malik, with the purpose of creating a religion that would set him up as a new emperor in conflict with the Christian emperor. By doing so, he leant his rebellion legitimacy and eliminated the need to justify his position as simply embracing an heterodox form of Christianity would not have. This all suggests that Islam did not conquer the Roman empire so much as a corruption of faith within the empire lead to a large portion of it falling away and becoming susceptible to the invention of Islam. Islam did not prevail by muslamic strength, but through Christian weakness. One can see why this history, if true, would have been thoroughly suppressed.

Makes a bit more sense too when taking into account how the direction Mosques faced changed a bit, like Abdul Malik was thinking "Hmm I'll have them go to Jerusalem the holy city, no no can't do that Jeeeews have it, and its in ruins, not a good tourism spot, Petra, no den of bunch of stuff I said was sinful, oh Mecca, they got that big black box there, in the heart of my empire. Yep say everyone has to go their once." Also that yes Christians did seem to be getting, heretical there, calling mother Mary a part of the Trinity and that's how that got in the Quran too, all far away from the hearts of civilization and big cities.

The Greater Syrians of the Umayyad Dynasty were Monothelite at the time of Muawiya. His Sasanian areas were dominated by Zoroastrians and Nestorians. His North African areas were Monophysite. The coins issued during this period reflect the religious faiths of people Muawiya ruled. It is possible that the “Muhammad” referred to in the coins from this period is simply “the praised one,” meaning whoever the diverse population believed that to be. It is conceivable that an appeal to the “Praised One,” was an attempt to be acceptable to the widest range of the population. In later centuries, this mashup became the prophet of what we now know as the religion of Islam.

@Waleed Khalid Yes, in fact, the Arabs did not even have calligraphy, and after the invasion of Iran and the massacre of innocent people, the Iranians drew the calligraphy for them in the same Arabic dialect. Iranians living on the Iranian plateau all speak Persian with different dialects but do not understand Arabic. After 70 years of murder and crime, speaking Persian was declared a crime, and whoever spoke this language had his tongue cut in his throat and became dumb forever. Later, the Arabs called the Iranians dumb. Books entitled Two Centuries of Silence have also been written on the subject.
@samiedi4134
3 жыл бұрын
@Waleed Khalid No work has been found that indicates the familiarity of Hejaz Arabs with writing in the distant past. They became acquainted with calligraphy shortly before the advent of Islam. The reason why writing and calligraphy were not common among the Hijaz Arabs was their primitive and nomadic life. They were always on the move or fighting and looting other tribes. Banditry and similar occupations prevented them from thinking about industries, including writing, which is a civilization and urbanization industry. Except that some of those who traveled to Syria and Iraq for business was gradually influenced by the civilized people of those areas and were inspired by their lifestyle and learned calligraphy from the people of Syria and Iraq. Hence, they became acquainted with the Nabataean or Syriac script, and these two types of script remained and were famous in Arabia until after the Islamic conquests. From the Nabataean script came the Naskh script, which is still known and remains today, and from the Syriac script was the Kufic script, which was called the Hiri script. That is, it was attributed to "Hirah", which is an old Arab city near Kufa, because the change in the Syriac script took place in Hirah, and after the construction of Kufa and the transfer of Arab civilization to this city, its name was changed to Kufi script. This line has long been popular among Arabs. As Ali ibn Abi Talib also wrote in the same script. The Arabs learned the Nabataean script, which later became the Naskh script, during their business trips to the Levant, from the Horans. But they took the line of Hiri or Kufi from Iraq. The Arabs used both scripts first in ordinary letters and writings and then in important writings, such as the Qur'an and Hadith. One reason why the evolved Kufic script is the Syriac script is that the Arabs wrote "books" without an "A" instead of "books" and "Rahman" instead of "Rahman". This is one of the features of the Syriac script that does not include the suffix (with a mod) in the vocabulary structure. At the time of the rise of Islam, calligraphy was not common among the Arabs of the Hejaz. Only a few less than twenty were familiar with calligraphy and writing. The Prophet of Islam hired them to write revelation and encouraged Muslims to learn calligraphy. At the beginning of the Islamic era, Muslims tried to write the Qur'an; And a few of those who could write, including Ali ibn Abi Talib, Umar ibn al-Khattab, and Talha ibn Ubaydullah, wrote the Qur'an. In this writing, the letters of the Nabataean alphabet or Syriac script were used. Both the Nabataean and Syriac scripts originated from the Aramaic script. There were many ambiguities in this line and the letters were written without dots and short vowels and some long vowels such as "a" were not written between the words. For example, in this line, B, N, T, and Savi were written in the same way, and Yah, Kh, J, and Yasush were similar. Before the Arab invasion of Iran and the arrival of Islam in this country, two Avestan and Pahlavi scripts were used; But before the Arab invasion of Iran, his script was a Kufic script. For a long time, the writing of the Qur'an was based on the Kufic script, and versions of the Kufic script are available. Ali ibn Abi Talib and Umar ibn al-Khattab also wrote in Kufic script. A copy of the Qur'an in the handwriting of Ali ibn Abi Talib is available in Kufic script. But there were still many misreadings in the reading of the Qur'an and the correspondence of the caliphs. People in other countries who were banned from their language and script had difficulty pronouncing Arabic words. Until in 65 AH, Abd al-Mulk ibn Marwan became the caliph in Damascus and in a letter to Hajjaj ibn Yusuf Saghafi, the Caliph of Iraq, told him that this Kufic script was no longer sufficient and asked him to develop the Kufic script. Promote. The pilgrims ordered their generals to exterminate all clerics of other religions and those who write in scripts other than Arabic. The effects of these actions were even more significant than the burning of books in Iran. These actions caused many problems for the language of other countries, including Persian speakers. The Arabs did not have the four main letters in their alphabet and called it Ajami letters. Finally, a calligrapher named Khajeh Abulmal added three letters Pej and Ch to the Arabic alphabet, and after a while, the letter G was added to the Arabic alphabet in its current form with long ups and downs. Two centuries later, in the early third century AH, the Naskh script was invented based on the Kufic script.

Absolutely brilliant. You are on the right track. Combine this irrefutable evidence with the historical testimony of the Christians at the time and a completely different image arises of the 7th century Middle East. It would seem the Roman emperor and populations of the western Middle East, who were under Arab emirs waging civil wars between themselves, still regarded the Roman emperor as the proper king of those Christian lands. Islam remained weak and amorphous as a religion until 690, when Al-Malik regarded his lands as no longer subject to the Romans but his God instituted state with its own state religion opposed to other state religions. If Muhammed was a false prophet, then Al-Malik was an antichrist ruling in Christian Damascus. Christian Jerusalem was still the centre of Islamic religion. But one thing is certain, the religion of Islam, the Quran, the Kaaba in Mecca, and the hadith of Muhammed developed and changed decades after Muhammed, and took shape under Al-Malik but took another two centuries to approach the form that we see in modern Islam.

The time has come for a new approach to Islam. We have enough archeology/information on our side. Stop indulging in the Muslim fantasyland to have a dialog with them. They don’t honor Jesus; they honor a man named Isa who was Aaron’s nephew. Isa bin Miriam is NOT the Arabic form of Jesus. Jesus in Arabic is Yesuah, always has been. Muslims honor a supposed prophet, Aaron’s nephew Isa, who did not die on a cross, raise from the dead, or claim to be God. He has very little in common with Jesus. All of Jessus’ actual friends/eyewitnesses (Peter, John, Paul) are persona non grata in Islam. So stop indulging the Muslim fantasy that Muslims honor Jesus. Stop going along with their claims that they honor Abraham, when they make up silly claims that have no historical or factual plausibility. As long as we let them piggy-back on Judeo-Christian tradition, we will continually watch them them make moral equivalence between Abraham and Mohammad. There is no moral equivalence, no historical equivalence, and no theological equivalence. Mohammad is NOT a slightly more sexual version of Abraham; he’s the more sexual version of Napoleon. Arabs were simply clever enough to theologize him over time. It’s time for us to put Mohammad in the right historical category, treat this thing like the fascist ideology it is, and break the theological bond.

Correction: Romans not Byzantines. This fact was very important to the Romans.
@Josdamale
3 жыл бұрын
@Waleed Khalid Yes, partially true, although it called itself simply the Roman empire. Why is this? What many people don't know, although it should be common knowledge for those who love history, is that since the 3rd century beginning with Diocletian, the senior Roman emperor if there was more than one, or the sole Roman emperor if there was only one, had his capital in the region of Thrace and the Bosphorus. The Roman empire had moved its senior capital to this region long before Constantinople. It wasn't Constantine who moved the capital of the Roman empire into this region, it was the pagan Roman elite who made that decision in the 3rd century, probably to secure the East as part of the empire. In that same century, which was one of instability and troubles, Roman citizenship was granted to all the cities of the Roman empire, and the rebel empire of Palmyra for a time seriously threatened to end the Roman empire in the East. Constantinople was the capital of the whole Roman empire, not just the East.
@Josdamale
3 жыл бұрын
@Waleed Khalid No. Read about Diocletian. The empire was divided earlier into an East and West, where the Senior Emperor, if there was more than one, or the Sole Emperor, if there was only one, had his capital in this region before Constantinople. It was a decision made before Constantine.
@Josdamale
3 жыл бұрын
@Waleed Khalid Where was the capital of the senior Roman emperor when there was more than one, from Diocletian onwards? And when there was only one Roman emperor, where was that capital? In both cases, did it not gravitate to the Bosphorus region? The point is that the Roman empire felt the need to move its main capital to the Greek East before Constantine, at the time of Constantine, and after Constantine. Constantine did not force or cause this situation. After granting citizenship to all the people of the Roman empire in the 3rd century, the Roman capital naturally gravitated to the Bosphorus. In other words, the region of the Bosphorus is the natural capital of the Roman world, in the same sense that the centre of gravity of a body is its natural balanced centre. In other words, Constantinople (or the region of the Bosphorus) is the capital of the Roman world, whether there is one emperor or more, from the 3rd century onwards. This region was also the origin of the Romans, because Troy was located here. So it was the centre and mother of Romanity. Constantinople is not just the capital of a so-called Eastern Roman empire. That civilization never called itself or conceived of itself as the Eastern Roman empire, but only as the Roman empire. It is the Roman empire, short and sweet. That is what history teaches.
@Josdamale

I think the reason the Muslims weren't minting their own coinage was because they didn't understand it until much later. Remember that any of them didn't have access to such things in Arabia proper. That would probably explain why they used the same coinage as those in Byzantium and among the Sassanids. It could also be said that they were attempting to sway Byzantine and Sassanids wrath by doing so. A rumor among them did say that Heraclius was a secret Muslim. That could just mean that Heraclius was somehow helping them, even if unwillingly.

The origin of the schism is the story of "Aisha's lost necklace" and Ali's hate for Aisha. Shia hate Aisha and consider Ali the first Caliph.... also this story explains the need for male 4 witness in matters of adultery accusations. As much of the Hadith is based around Aisha's recounts of Muhammad, Shia are not big on the Hadith. Who is Aisha? she was the six year old that Muhammad marries and started fo rape from the age of nine.

Remember that Islam began due to a political rivalry, which would continue long afterwards...and this is what we see in the Sunni-Shia split even today. The Sunnis and Shias have very little differences theologically. It's almost entirely political, as it was in the beginning as well.

@Music Learner Well, the short answer is there kzitem.info/news/bejne/zKWMx6yYkHSdpWk . you can also watch the full video although I don't agree with all of what he said. The long answer: I am a muslim who speaks Arabic natively & I am not a scholar. so let me tell you my humble answer from a perspective of most arab muslims when they watch such video they just consider it as an attack. by the way I am not trying here to win an argument. I am more trying to expose to you our point of view. the culture of arab before & during prophet Muhammed life time they used to memories their history & conquests by poetry. the structure of such poetry was something like short, expressive, sounding good & easy to repeat. when Quran sent down to Mouhamed from Allah (according to us muslims). it has different structure from poetry but was expressive, sounding good, easy to repeat & full of logical reasoning. so this is why most arab muslims view the Quran as a miracle. I know that if you are not an arab & you are (Christian or Jew) go read the Quran you will feel it is more like from the bible. but the structure of the Quran is different. some early arabs (against Muhamed) tried to forge something like it but they couldn't (also I'd like to mention that one Arabic Church here tried to make a version of the bible more like the quran structure but it didn't work out). so we have the Quran & some poetry against it. we can't deny all of that (at least for an arab muslim). so why there was no coins. the early muslims understanding of expansion I think, wasn't like what think of it today nor like what so Islamic groups try to express today. it was more of an invite to the religion. the early muslims didn't even think of collecting the Quran in one book that came later. even after the prophet death. they get confused whether to collect in one book or not. in addition to that environment of such culture (means of communication & so on), it is not by all means like a country as we know it today . if you study the history of prophet Muhamad from Islamic sources you would see that he wasn't really trying to make a country or an establishment (like what some Islamic groups today) as we know it today. it is more like to spread the words of the quran & an invitation to people. when you read the quran you will see that it emphasize the one Allah, judgment day, heaven & hell. it tells you that are more responsible for your actions & choices. so what would make Abd al-malik forge such quran then. it doesn't even mention him.

It's been clear to me for quite a while that Islam was invented by someone who'd read Plato's "Republic" and knew about the life of Julius Caesar. But what threw me off is Islam was born a loooong way from the Roman Empire, and [the unnamed prophet whom we'll call "Muhammad"] could not have possibly pulled this off on his own. So somebody had to have brought it to them. Jews who hated Christianity? the Karan family of Sassanid Iran? But until I saw this video, I had no idea that the first Caliphs had such an intimate, formal relationship with the Emperor. So now I know who invented islam as we know it. Abd al-Malik. He had the means, and the motive, and the opportunity. God bless you, Jay. You just blew this case wide open.
