Every time the flame trees light up my town, this song comes to my mind. My youth and my friends all come back to me. Such a part of my life. Love it so much.

I have been a massive fan since the 70's, so glad you have found them. Their back catalogue is huge, as is Jimmy's as a solo artist. Please showcase more of both the band and Jimmy solo.

I've been playing a ton of music by both of them. Of course we're talking over forty years of back catalogue. I did play the first Cold Chisel album and then played that EP they released, "You're Thirteen, You're Beautiful, And You're Mine". I'm also reading the second book of Jimmy's, "Working Class Man".

Cold Chisel formed in 1973 with 17-year-old Jimmy Barnes as frontman another Aussie Band formed in the same year AC/DC, The final last stand concert at the Sydney Entertainment Centre was on December 15, 1983, they reformed 15 years later in 1998. That was 40 years ago the little girl Mahalia Barnes is brilliant featuring in Riding With The Kings with Joe Bonamassa. Flame Trees Red leaf tree common down the coast of New South Wales. The Guitarist is Ian Moss the other regular singer you should hear him do Georgia On My Mind

Brilliant song, wriiten by the drummer, Steve Prestwich RIP 🕊 Jimmy kills it on vocals, and Mahalia is just a cutie. Lyrics - Kids out driving saturday afternoon just pass me by And I'm just savoring familiar sights We share some history, this town and I And I can't stop that long forgotten feeling of her Try to book a room and stay tonight Number one is to find some friends to say "you're doing well" After all this time you boys look just the same Number two is the happy hour at one of two hotels Settle in to play "do you remember so and so? Number three is never say her name Oh the flame trees will blind the weary driver And there's nothing else could set fire to this town There's no change, there's no pace Everything within its place Just makes it harder to believe that she won't be around But oh who needs that sentimental bullshit, anyway Takes more than just a memory to make me cry And I'm happy just to sit here a table with old friends And see which one of us can tell the biggest lies And there's a girl falling in love near where the pianola stands With a young local factory auto worker just holding hands And I'm wondering if he'll go or if he'll stay Do you remember, nothing stopped us on the field In our day Oh the flame trees will blind the weary driver And there's nothing else could set fire to this town There's no change, there's no pace Everything within its place Just makes it harder to believe that she won't be around Oh the flame trees will blind the weary driver And there's nothing else could set fire to this town There's no change, there's no pace Everything within its place Just makes it harder to believe that she won't be around

I didn’t think much of this song when I first heard it, but over time it sunk its hooks deep into me, and now it makes me emotional every time. For the cultural comparisons, there’s some deep seated problems in how a lot of people see Aboriginal Australians, and the relationship between law enforcement and them is *abyssmal*. There is a pretty similar history of displacement, cultural genocide, segregation, and enforced poverty that has led to similar social illnesses/oppressions/stigmas that Descendants of Slaves (DOS) black Americans face.

Australia has many cultural differences to the US but we also share many similarities, especially when it comes to pop culture. Similarly, i've been told by many Aussies who have visited the US that the nature and attitude of many Australians is more similar to Southern Americans than Northern Americans. Another similarity, is that Australia has a lot of immigrants. I believe over 40% of Australians were born overseas. Thanks again for reacting to my favourite band. I used to own the Last Stand concert on VHS and would watch it constantly, usually after a few beers, as suddenly you start to believe that you are sounding like Jimmy lol.

Haven't heard/watched this for 20 plus years .... cripes, they were a tight band when live ! As for growing up in hicksville, same dynamics went on in Australian rural areas. Maybe less today than in my youth but still present. What has decreased here is overt racism .... not just involving indigenous people but also our considerable influx of Asian people has created a more tolerant and accepting culture all round !

@@deepcutsreactions7774 The new millennium bought out the worst in us. No doubt. We were really making some progress there in the 80's and 90's. Such a shame. It's cyclic. Things will come around. They always do. Having married an American and due to the widely distributed and short term nature of my contracts, ten years ALL OVER the U.S - at that point 1/3 of my life. I get the differences more than most, but broadly, we are a very similar people. We're a bit more laid back but we can be. We are a long way from the corridors of power and not constantly under the spotlight like you guys. All the best. Been watching without subbing for a month and just subbed and set notifications. @@Shilo-fc3xm Okies are pretty laid back but I get your meaning. It is crazy being at the center of things. One of my friends even moved to Uruguay to get away from it. Everything the U.S. does affects the rest of the world and this country is in the midst of going totally insane. Even in the best of times we do so many stupid things. Thanks for subscribing. I just think it's so cool to get to share music with people all over the world. A lot of ya'll write in and describe the different places they live. The other guy singing would have been Ian Moss Going down the rabbit hole that is the Cold Chisel catalogue will be an eye opener Songs like Breakfast At Sweerhearts, Khe San, Bow River JIMMY has had a pretty good solo career with a few different reincarnations, as with a hell of a lot of aussie songwriters they can and often do tell stories that resonate with the listeners, one of the ones that hits with me is Shutting Down Our Town, its about the closure of the Elizabeth Holden Factory in 2017 after General Motors decided that the market wasnt big enough to continue with right hand drive vehicles, hits home with me cos i grew up in that area and had relatives and friends that worked there... Others worth listening to are inxs JOHN farnham Paul Kelly Angels AcDc Nick Cave Midnight Oil Rose Tattoo

I know you love these live cuts and as somebody that had seen all the great aussie bands live, I get why you're drawn to it. But do give the studio cuts of these classic songs a listen. Sometimes Barnsey is over the top and he can spoil a song for those first timers.

Story was interesting but did not pick up why the father dragged his son out of your rental place and told him he has to goto Nashville. I assume he was still a teenager and they were paying his rent for him for that to occur and were not longer going to pay for him and this was their way to get him earning money himself. Both our nations are English speaking and originally influenced from the British Empire. You guys just a bit earlier in time but mostly both nations formed from people from England, Ireland, Scotland etc. I think our differences would be in the cultures developed differently after that around Politics, Sport and humour in the next generations. But apart from that, a lot of similar things I would assume. I was in New York changing flights through different airports via subway train system and that was similar. But there was one thing that rocked my world in the few hours I was there... it was minus 17 degrees c which my body was not used to as the coldest it gets in my city of Melbourne is probably 1 or 2 degrees overnight once or twice a winter. But it was February at the time so USA was in middle of their winter and we were in summer so when I got back to Melbourne it was about 40 degrees c that day so within a day and a bit I had gone from -17 to 40 degrees c which in your measurement would be from about zero to 104 degrees F. As for the song, a great song written by the drummer and piano player. You are right about the band. The five of them were simply amazing together. They broke up just when I discovered them which would have been the time of that concert movie called The Last Stand so I missed out on seeing them live in their heyday. However they reformed decades later for some albums and concerts so I saw them a few times in early 2000's and about 10 years ago, just after the drummer had suddenly passed away. Best concerts I been in my life so something of the bucket list ticked off the band I most wanted to see live in my lifetime.

I was 18 at the time the problem was that my friend was having sex with his girlfriend and his father was not going to allow such a thing to happen. This was over fifty years ago and sex before marriage was a very big deal in Oklahoma. We are right in the middle of what they call "The Bible Belt" Many counties were "dry" meaning alcohol was illegal. All businesses were closed on Sunday. In many towns dancing was prohibited.
