We have an electric oil press similar to the one in your video that we bought on Amazon, it has a low and high setting. Even on the low setting it definitely heats the walnuts. Is this still considered "cold pressed"? Do you know if there a temperature limit to preserve the nutritional value? Thanks!

Hi, even though the oil is heated slightly I think it can be classified as a cold press oil because the alternative industrial method of solvent extracted oil is steamed and pressed hot before further refinements. I believe that the temperature oil becomes degraded is when it is heated close to the smoking point (300-500F depending on the oil), which is quite high and obvious to detect by sight, smell, and taste. Burnt oil is not enjoyable to consume, which I have yet to encounter with the machine I use :). In my research the experts assigning low temperatures for nutritional degradation for nuts and seeds probably have never produced oil from them. Of course the highest level of nutrition from an organically grown walnut is eaten raw in its whole form sort of thing, but the oils we make at home are better than anything we can buy, regardless of the clever packaging for temperature controlled promotional concepts! I created a playlist called homemade natural oils which is my expected yields from small batch oil pressing and am always looking for new ideas so is there any oils that you make that I have not included? Thank you!

@Matt-qw4tz Hello, can you give me a link for Amazon in your machine?

Hi thanks for vid .. did you buy packet walnuts then dry in a dehydrator or are they good enough to press straight out of packet. I’m thinking of buying bulk from nut supplier here but not sure if I have to dry more or there ok to put through press I have.

Hi, fresh walnuts straight off the tree need to be dried in their shell to stop mold from growing on their shell, but packaged walnuts like the walnut pieces I used in the video are good to put through your press! Great question, thanks :)

what machine do you use? and are there any options to re-use any nut pulp, like adding to breading for deep-frying, bread, cookies etc?

Hi, the brand is YUEWO and I purchased the machine on-line through Amazon a few years ago. You are right, the extruded fiber can be ground up for crackers etc.

Hi, I'm thinking to buying this machine but have some questions. After the oil extract process, is it possible to mix the oil and pulp to make a nut butter or almond butter? I know there is a machine which does that but I want a machine both extract oil and make some nut/walnut/almond butter for breakfast.

Hi, sorry I do not know of a single machine that will do that with a useable volume for both oil and butter. Once the oil is pressed I think it would be difficult to add the fiber back in to make a smooth butter. Cheers!

So you have 2 parts after separation. What is left in the jar is still solid. What do you do with that when you dump out the oil?

The remaining sediment is walnut butter, which is good on toast.

Hi, Amazon has a few to chose from - I do not know enough about the individual machine brands to recommend one over another. I started using my cold press oil machine because it was impossible to find specialty oils that were not expired or ridiculously expensive! Cheers :)

Hi, the machine I use was bought on-line from Amazon a few years ago and took a few months to get here because it was made in China and went through Canadian Customs. It was the only machine available at the time and has worked well for me but I do not know the brand name. Now, I think there are a lot more machines available to buy and an oil press machine does not have many working parts so I would recommend buying one with a warranty for the motor, and make sure your electrical outlets are compatible with it. I make all my oils in small batches, less than a pound of seeds or nuts, and it is worth the $350 I paid for it! Hope that helps you :)
