Hi everyone! In this video you will see how I like to make my floating soap. This one is called Double Double Toil and Trouble! I prefer to make my floating soap this way for the freedom it gives me in techniques I can use that otherwise I would be limited to if I had done it the alternate way.
If you are a soaper and would like to try this recipe yourself, I will add it below, along with some links to where I get some of my ingredients. Note: I do not receive anything for these mentions. These are just a few of the places I like to shop for supplies.
Please don't attempt to make this recipe until you have an understanding of how to make cold process soap and the safety measures that are a necessary part of the craft. There are many tutorials out there whether online, in a library, or in a class, that you can use to prepare yourself to make soap safely and successfully. If you are already a soaper and have the knowledge needed to proceed, enjoy!

Before you begin, please always double check ingredients in a lye calculator for safety. Typos happen! Also, this gives you the chance to use your own water of oils ratio, and super fat %, and/or to resize your recipe if you desire.
Add lye to water, mix thoroughly and bring to room temperature
Melt oils together, mix thoroughly and bring to room temperature
Add lye water to oils and bring to trace with an emersion blender
Add fragrance and mix in thoroughly
Whip in bubbles in a stand mixer. If you did not reduce this recipe, you will need to do this step in two portions as there is too much to do all at once. (This step is optional, and will give you a floating soap)
Be careful not to whip too aggressively! Your batter is caustic and you don't want it to splatter! Using a splash guard is a very useful safety step.
Divide batter into four separate containers and add colorant to your desired saturation level.
Begin by pouring one colour over the entire base of your mold/s to approximately 1/2inch thick.
Pour all colours, one at a time and alternating, repeating the process until you have used up all the batter. Pour as closely to the mold as you can so that the batter does not submerge too deeply.
Dress up the tops of the loaf/loaves with your method of choice (I used a figure eight with a coffee stir stick)
Add embeds if desired. (Embeds can be made out of a smaller version of the same base recipe beforehand)
Add glitter if you chose. The glitter I have chosen are biodegradable and will break down in nature.
Wrap until gelled, or oven process at approximately 170 degrees until loaves reach about 155 degrees or are fully gelled.
Set overnight, and cut into desired bar size when loaves have hardened up sufficiently (about 18-24 hours)
Thank you for watching!
Enjoy!
