Yeah, if you're willing to forgo certain niceties you can make an extremely solid, albeit more basic vehicle that will last decades. Issue is with added complexity comes more moving parts to break, higher dependence on exotic materials/technology and more maintenance. As many modern militaries are learning, sometimes all you need is something somewhat basic that just works.

I love these little choppers. They are modular. Behind the cockpit can be fitted a variety of 'modules' like for passenger carrying or as an air ambulance. I am guessing this one is a crop duster. There is a larger, more modern version in production called the Ka-226. ☮

I flied this helicopter a few years ago, it is used to spray crops in Romania.

can anyone please confirm this is a Kamov Ka-26? it appears to have separate engines for each rotor, is this correct? is the craft capable of any kind of stable flight (or at least an emergency descent) if one of the rotors fails? is it possible to cause the rotors to intersect, has this ever happened? the video jumps between winding up the spring starters (i presume) and then the engine running, and it also jumps between stationary and rotating rotors, we do not get to see these start - what is the reasons for these gaps?
