Yeah ... I wanted to get an impression of a couple of the Cold Steel products. And ... well ... I did. Hmph. Another reviewer and I were kinda joking around saying that if Cold Steel took all the cool fittings from the Warrior and put them on the blade from the Gold Lion ... WOW ... that'd be a pretty nice sword. Ah well ... dreams.

@@erichusayn I personally think they have some very nice designs! I have a bit of a soft spot for them. Unfortunately their execution and severe lack of quality control have made them notorious problem children. If they could fix that I think you'd see Cold Steel being regarded more highly.

I almost purchased the cold steel Warrior katana. Comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by the master swordsman that forged it by hand. Don't get me wrong Cold steel makes pretty good products but something told me to stay away, I could print a certificate of authenticity. I'm glad I stayed away and ordered a truly hand Forged t10 spring steel katana with a real hamon, it's razor blade Sharp and all the fittings are tight. Unfortunately at 6:15 the hamon on that sword without a doubt looks like it was applied with a wire brush. They basically put a steel stencil over the blade and create the fake Hamon with a wire brush rotary tool.

What negative stigma of the Cold Steel name??? I know tons of people who use Cold Steel products and have not heard of any negative stigma. Most of the knife reviewers on KZitem also have a lot of good things to say about their products. So where is this coming from???

As I'm sure you are aware ... Cold Steel is not a manufacturer. They are a licensing entity. Cold Steel doesn't actually make anything. So ... whoever they contract out to and license the CS brand name to for their knives ... YES ... they are a good make ... have been for a long time. For their swords however ... whoever they contracted to are notorious for bad quality control issues.

Been waiting all week for this! You've sold me on it as a whole; now I just need to find a job so I can start affording this stuff again! What worried me initially was whether or not it had a hamon, but your video shows it clearly does. My question is if it's there from etching/wirebrushing, or if it's from proper clay-tempering? Because outside of it's lack of edge, my biggest issue with the Warrior Katana was it's lack of a hamon.

Its actually been a while since I made this video. I sold the sword some time ago ... so excuse me if the memory is a little fuzzy. But! From what I remember #1- the homon was real, #2- This one DID come with a nice out-of-the-box factory edge on it.

@@mr.excalibur1455 I came across your channel today with a review on the Cold Steel Gold Tiger Katana which you stated had a few problems and I moved onto a few of your other videos watching some practice cuts that seemed to be going through water jugs like a knife through butter and when I looked up the sword it was only $280 a lot cheaper than Cold Steel so thought I would ask the question from your experience of Katana's/wakizashi's which have been the best in quality and of cause sharpeness, say up to the $500 mark then up to $1000 and over? Thank you.

@@mrdg1523 I would say Dragon King katanas are the best overall in the sub $500 category. They have somewhat unique fittings that give them a little extra flash over most other makes in that range. Their blades always come razor sharp. If you are looking for a backyard cutter I would actually stick with Ronin Katana. However ... RK are really bland when it comes to looks ... thus why I prefer DK. And ... to boil it down even more ... go with Dragon King's Hana ... really simple but elegant model. Now for the over $500 category I would go with Skyjiro. Their ordering process takes a little bit of patience ... but it is worth it. They are elegant pieced perfect for practice, display ... whatever. And ... they have models that are REAL contenders in the $1000+ category as well.

Maybe the spray paint smell was oil or an oil like substance that many knife manufacturers use to lightly coat the blade with to prevent erosion and rust.

Cold steel should have never entered the Katana market and stayed with their tried and true Tanto blades. The fact that they did and the poor quality of their Katanas only proves they were trying to grab some of the popular Katana market and gave little thought about how to actually compete.

"Weeaboo is a mostly derogatory slang term for a Western person who is obsessed with Japanese culture, especially anime, often regarding it as superior to all other cultures." 1st - not obsessed with Japanese culture ... just like their swords ... although the Japanese culture of civility has its appeal. 2nd - messed around with anime when I was in college ... love the Macross series ... don't care for most of it really. 3rd - Not only do I not think it superior ... I actually think of the katana as INFERIOR to European swords in a multitude of ways. Not wise to make assumptions about people you know so little about ... unless ... do we know each other??
