Mine came razor sharp... I have, both, the San Mai and 3V Models. And they're both razor sharp along the entire blade. :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)

I view the issue of the bevel and the tanto shape as non-points. This is an Americal tanto, not a Japanese wakizashi.

You are absolutely right about these kydex garbage sheaths ... agree 100% not only they keep dulling the edge ,,,but for 300 bucks bracket category knives, which are excellent themselves, these knives deserves nice quality leather sheaths not a kydex garbage...I wouldn't mind these sort of cheap crappy sheaths on 20 to 50 bucks flee Market knives ,but for cold steel finest these sheaths are gimmicks ...i know survivalists and military people will start old story oh leather keeps moisture and blah blah ...Well go and get yourself kydex if that sounds to you but for collectors and users knives shall have always decent leather sheaths option

I'm not a fan of Americanized tantos for the most part, but I do like the Magnum Tanto XII. I have two San Mai versions and both were acceptably sharp out of the box. Also, I'm not as down on the sheaths as you are. Both of mine are held securely in their kydex sheaths (if it even is kydex?). But this is a nice enough blade to warrant getting a custom sheath.
@SeditiousSensei
Did you purchase that blade directly from cold steel or a reputable seller of authentic cold steel blades? Just wondering how confident you are regarding the authenticity of the blade in question. Thank you for the video!

I have an old San Mai one from like the first run they did and it snapped so it's getting replaced with the 3V version. I'm keeping the original leather sheath though

What's difference between CPM-3V white and coated of Cold Steel magnum tanto?

Do as the Japanese do and that is when pulling the knife out let the back of the blade ride on the sheath not the sharpened edge . With Japanese designed blades that have the curve to the blade , that is how to draw and put the blade back into the sheath . No matter what material you use as a sheath if you ride the sharpened edge of the blade against the material the blade will cut into it . If it is leather or soft nylon the sheath will be damaged , if it is kydex , plastic , hard nylon or fiber reinforced the blade will be damaged .

I had the same issue with the sheath. Agree it's garbage. I was able to heat it with hair dryer and make the entry point /opening a bit wider and now it goes in and out smoothly and securely. But like you, I am looking for a 3rd party sheath either in kydex or leather. Thanks for the video!
@shorelineshrine9666
You have to push it in dude

Found your sheath yet

Man I would be very pissed off if I got one in that steel and it was not up to par with being sharp , especially being as though I'm not a very skilled edge profiler like you are ,

Bought a clone of the smaller 7inch brother for 25$ on Amazon. S3v or whatever steel. Best little investment for a work tanto ever. Geometric yokote too lol

You should watch Joe x video on the 9" version of this knife, one of the reason why I don't buy cold steel knives anymore 🤨
