handle grip pattern looks sick, seem functional as well. would love to see a tutorial on how that's done.

The original steel was Carbon V. I have a Recon Tanto and a Kukri made out of Carbon V Steel and they have been abused for decades. Still going.

Carbon V steel. I have a Cold Steel Recon Tanto, made from Carbon V steel. Seems to be a very good steel. I just do not know much about steel.

Steels are complex, so I don't even try to keep up. I would like to find something in the carbon v though. I have my go to Steels, but they're all classics and known by most. I assume certain types fade away due more to cost, and availability, rather than poor performance, so it makes me curious about the ones, such as carbon v, that were known to be of good quality. Thanks for watching!

How exactly did you make the handle?
@lheastridge

I used a soldering iron with a wood burning tip, just like stippling polymer, only with a much lower temperature. Rubber is tricky, because you only have one shot at it. Thanks for watching!

I just bought a SRK a few weeks, been wanting one and finally got it and I’m very impressed. The first test was to see how good of a spark it would throw. Boy was I happy! Much better than I thought. I was thinking when I examined it that I might need to remove some of the coating, glad I didn’t have too. To not be a bushcraft knife it performs those take well as you demonstrated. I know what you mean how the knife is hard to remove from sheath . So when I’m actively using the knife I just don’t push it all the way in the sheath and that works well. Your knife handle does look bad ass, when I first saw it I thought is was some new handle design,I cracked up when you said it was the fire, lol. I enjoyed this video, would you happen to live in WV?

Glad you liked the video! I'm in Southwest Virginia, near Abingdon. I was also expecting to have to remove the coating, and was pleasantly surprised. It's rare to see one shower sparks, with a coating. I'm currently reviewing a Condor that will also throw sparks, though not quite as well as the SRK. Did some grip work on it, as well. Thanks for watching!

Tie a permanent lanyard, what's with the lanyard being removable.... also I suggest a bright color
@lheastridge
Жыл бұрын
I make my lanyards removable in case I want to do something to the scales, grip, etc. I tend to alter the knives I like to fit my tastes. I'm the case of the SRK, it came in handy when I repaired the melted grip. I agree with the bright color, but I was out of every color except black, and tan. It has an orange lanyard now. Thanks for watching!

1 thousandth watch! I have the Italian version in 3V and absolutely love it! It can truly take a beating! One knife I can see why the navy seals use them in their BUDS teams! Neat handle material you used! I find the handle material it comes with I need to use gloves when I'm working hard with it! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and review with us! I have one of the Older SRK they made in Japan...I believe it's AUS8 Steel....But you are mistaken I am looking at it right in front of me...its a Saber Grind...
@lheastridge
Жыл бұрын
The older ones had a saber grind, and used a different steel, before cold steel was sold. After that, they started producing SK5 versions with the hollow grind. Thanks for watching!
@yogibro6442

Currently the 3v is the only one with the saber grind, the rest all have hollow ground right now. They said they were considering making the other versions (sk5 steel and san-mai) flat/saber ground again, like they used to be, but not so far.
