Hi Magz, I really enjoy your Cold Waters videos and want to share a very effective torpedo evasion tactic. The principle on which torpedoes work is that if they have multiple contacts they go for the strongest (signal strength) one. But if they pass through the 'target' they then switch to the next strongest contact. This is why when torpedoes home in and pass close/through to a MOSS, knuckle or noise maker they turn and re-engage your submarine. However, torpedoes sensors are weaker in the vertical plane so: if you fire a MOSS in any given direction and then sail directly underneath it (70-100ft) with the same bearing and speed (MOS speed is 20kts) the torpedoes will home in on the MOSS, pass through, turn to do a sensor sweep and re-engage the MOSS because you are hidden in the MOSS's 'shadow' (you are so close the MOSS drowns out any noise from your submarine). With this tactic, you can evade any number of torpedoes (my personal best is 9 simultaneously). Also, the MOSS is so loud it even covers the sound of your cavitation so you can perform this tactic at any depth. But beware, if you ram the MOSS with your submarine it will be instantly destroyed. Summary: Launch a MOSS Go along the same bearing and speed (20kts) and directly below (70-100ft) the MOSS Go anywhere and be impervious to torpedoes Ps. You can go above the MOSS but any air or ship launched torpedoes can hit you when homing in diagonally downwards.

The passage about the attack in Gremikha has two grammatical errors. In the line, "...witnesses have called a 'massive attack' by conducted NATO," it should be "conducted by" not "by conducted". Secondly, in the line, "...and seem yet not to have been brought under control, it should be "and seem to have not yet been brought under control." But it's whatever.

At one point TLAM was available in a TLAM/N variant. N indicates nuclear warhead. The stockpile has declined and a substantial number of TLAM/N warheads (W80-0) have already been dismantled. [Update 21 Mar: FY12 Pantex Performance Evaluation Report states (p.24): “All W80-0 warheads in the stockpile have been dismantled.”

We still have Tomahawks, just no nuke warheads on them. They were used to great effect during the "Shock and Awe" phase of the Gulf war. The ship to ship variant is lethal. I had to look up a bit about the Krivak class, because I thought you pronounce it in wrong way (imo). So I don't understand why the NATO designation is made in a "russian" way, because it seems the russian designation is some weird number after project. Anyway I am not russian, but Czech and the word looks pretty similar to our own word (křivák = something like false guy, someone who betrays a lot, or curved knife). So the correct way to tell the name would be "krivak' not 'kirivak'

A rule of thumb in Cold Waters is to always assume counter-fire when you launch missiles. Once you launch, clear the datum as fast as possible.

9:30 Moss decoys seem to sink out and die after reaching the set activation point so it can pay to sometimes scroll out right before right clicking on the tac map. I personally like to deploy two Moss decoys along a similar course so the torpedo(s) go between the two, giving me a little more time to run if not completely occupying the attention of the weapons for the rest of their lifetime. Oh yeah, and spamming knuckles seems to be one of the best ways to evade torpedos; you don't expend any finite resources and there's no need to drastically change course or depth. Very effective, very efficient 11:45 In my experience, the aircraft in this game are occasionally omnipotent. There's rogue helicopters that'll sometimes spawn deep in nato waters just to escort spetsnaz-carrying diesel boats and interfere with other encounters far from a home ship or base (if I press F4 nothing happens, I'm pretty sure they're bugged). In the case of this TLAM mission, I've had the Soviets completely lose track of me on all sensors for 5-10 minutes, just to have the Bear Foxtrot randomly fly overhead, pick me up on MAD, and immediately start drop depth bombs.

A general hint for successful TLAM strikes: get into deeper waters, usually away from the target. Launch the missiles and it will be easier to avoid contanct and you can move out of area faster

again, it is not about the ease of the mission, it is that each one takes at least an hour to complete properly, there is a high risk of damage or death due to MPA, and there is no tonnage. Waste of time if no tonnage.
@GumMagnum

I've only ever been damaged on one of these missions once, and that was back when I was new to the game. Since then I've done it many times without trouble or much wait. The key is knowing when to use time compression.
