Aussie and NZ umpires used to be the loadstars of biased umpiring (some called them 'cheats') in those days. That was the reason why these two countries crackled at their loudest when VAR was brought into play.

Actually, if you follow the historical facts yes WI were beaten but the game wasn't that straightforward. First both sides ultimately agreed that the umpiring was subpar. Next the WI team being frustrated etc, protested by not playing their best cricket. Some players packed their bags and almost left the tours before it finished. Fielders shepherded balls to the boundaries etc. But it is true that this was the birth of one of Newzelands best ever sides. These guys became some of Newzelands greats

The first delivery, Crodt didn't even appeal for and only did so after Murray appealed. Can't blame the umpire totally for that one.. I think both were out and both the West Indian bowlers behaved poorly.. The facts are that the West Indies were jaded after the Aussie tour and in surly mood for much of the New Zealand tour. It's an open secret that they weren't in the mood to play and wanted to go home. Then they were caught against a determined NZ team and Hadlee too good for them on those pitches and what they perceived as biased umpiring.

He actually did deliberately run into the umpire. Two of the old West Indian Rebel tour guys played in my city Durban for Natal and were friends of an uncle due to club cricket and would visit often for Barbeques and stuff. They confirmed for a fact that Croft did give the ole ump a bit of a deliberate bump.. Both knew Crofty well as part of the rebel team.
