Thank Zack Braff for introducing so so many people to Colin Haye's outstanding and underrated solo work. If you never knew his solo work and only knew Men At Work for their hits you would be amazed to hear just how good he is.

Colin Hay was born in Scotland, moved to Australia, was a worldwide sensation with Men At Work and their hits, and is awesome as a solo artist. A great story teller, funny, nice and worth exploring. Great show....The episodes when dr coxs wife dropped bombs on EVERYONE and when JD dropped the ‘I'm alone..stop complaining about your relationships?’ rant were powerful. My my my, it's a beautiful world I like swimming in the sea I like to go out beyond the white breakers Where a man can still be free, Or a woman if you are one I like swimming in the sea My my my, It's a beautiful world I like drinking Irish Tea With a little bit of lap sang souchong I like making my own Tea My my my, It's a beautiful world I like driving in my car Roll the top down, Sometimes I travel quite far Drive to the ocean Stare up at the stars All around is anger, automatic guns Death in large numbers, no respect for woman, or our little ones I tried talking to Jesus, but he just put me on hold Said he'd been swamped by calls this week And He could not shake his cold And still this emptiness persists Perhaps this is as good as it gets When you've given up the drink and those nasty cigarettes Now I leave the party early at least with no regrets I watch the sun as it comes up I watch it as it sets Yeah this is as good as it gets My my my, It's a beautiful world I like sleeping with Marie She is one sexy girl full of mystery She says she doesn't love me, but she likes my company For now that's good enough for me

I kind of relate to this song. I have an amazing life, I really do - I appreciate it, and most of the time, I am very happy. This song, in my perspective, is about realizing you have a really good life, and coming to terms with it. You have good times and bad times, but overall your life is good. It's strange though, realizing that you have all you need and a lot of what you want, and that life may not get better. It's good and strange, all at once.

Enjoy the little things. There is so much beauty all around when you walk through the world with your eyes wide open. So many possibilities and adventures lying in front of you. And it depends on YOU: You can walk your old paths and enjoy the familiarity or take a leap into the blue to exlore what might happen...

He is pretty right on a lot of things in this song. The world is beautiful. For me, being a Christian helps me to see that even more. We're perfectly entitled to find happiness, using any means which are morally right. So for those of you who aren't Christians I don't hate you, or want to argue like a lot of others seem to on here, I want to say that I'm happy you've also found a way to also see the beauty of this world.

I meditated on & off for some 18 months, a year and a half, at the age of 33-4, on the proposition that John Howard was right, that this is as good as it gets, that one should secularize, pragmatize, sympathize in a limited degree, not too extensively, and came to the conclusion that was a load of old rot, as anyone still a teenager will not have forgot, and as anyone dead will not retain in their head.
