Colin, in 97-98, pippen was missing for basically half a season and the Bulls still went 24-12. And it's not that Jordan couldn't carry the bulls to a great record without Pippen.... It's that team chemistry is so important and Pippen's job was the glue guy. You take that away and the team has to rediscover it's roles. Remember when 3 of the top 5 players in the league in Lebron, Wade, and Bosh were getting losses after losses? It certainly didn't have to do with talent.. they were loaded, but they took a while to figure out how to play together. That is amplified in a system where Jordan played off ball and Pippen took over the point role. There's all sorts of communication rotations and plays that need to be revamped.

Glad this documentary refreshed Colin's memory cause I remember him trying to downplay Jordan's path to prop up the Jordan vs Lebron debate. All of us that grew up with watching Jordan in the 80s and 90s saw exactly why we all concretely say he's the best that will ever play the game. He played against tons of hall of famers and stacked teams and prevented so many greats from winning a championship. There's a reason Jordan shoes sell like hotcakes to this very day. The Jordan era when guys played hard every game is what we mean by old school. Much respect to that era who didn't make nearly as much these modern players but didn't need load management

We don't debate MJ & Lebron, STANS do. Many of us have Kareem, Wilt, Russell, and Kobe (or others) somewhere ahead of Lebron in different orders. No 3-6 Stat monster is in ANY competition for GOAT. Nobody being outplayed by Jason Terry in a Finals has a chance. A person who quit in his second Sweep Finals with 4:03 on the clock has NO chance. Lebron is great, but GOAT he is not.

Lebron has made every team he's gone to a contender. People don't understand that Jordan had professionals playing along side him while LeBron had a bunch that should have never been in the NBA. Give Jordan the same talent level and he would be with no titles. The NBA has better athletes now but many lack consistency.

Yes. With smart load management, he probably gets an extra 4 cracks at #7. I don’t give a damn that he played 82 for however many seasons. The regular season is meaningless and the “kawhi method” maximizes your number of chances at a championship without materially sacrificing the your chances on each title attempt

I enjoyed the part about Pippen going to UCA and not making the team at first, being the equipment manager, then asking for a scholarship when a few players washed out. Really powerful message there. I could see how the common thread is there for him and MJ to fit together.

Ok so I've been an MJ goat person for all of time but in all honesty, I have absolutely no idea how LeBron Stans could suddenly totally flip after seeing the first two episodes alone. Those episodes did not really go into much detail about his greatness it was more a foundation for the rest of the series. I think the last couple episodes will make everyone flip, but those first two? Seems a little premature
@Theycallmekenney

sam_ohagan18 I don’t think this the point of the documentary either. It’s more just going deeper into an iconic franchise and an amazing deep story of an organization and its players balancing winning and dysfunction
@sam_ohagan185
4 жыл бұрын
Aidan Murphy I know I’m not saying the point of the doc is too make everyone think MJ is the goat... I totally agree with you on that. I was just saying that as amazing as MJ was, I don’t think the first two episodes focused on his greatness as much as it was about how he got to where he was and the context surrounding the 98 season. MJ is the goat (obviously) and the rest of the doc will certainly make everyone flip because it’s going to go in detail about his ridiculous playoff run that year but the first two episodes were not about that at all, so I don’t see how they could suddenly convince you MJ is the goat...

I still can't understand what is wrong with that Michael got Pippen and Phil. He not changing teams for searching rings, he is not pushing the organisation to get them. Of course he can't do that alone that's why basketball is a team sport. And btw only idiot's still compares jordan vs lebron. Cmon you still thinking Lebron will dominate East with 90's teams? The end of the day he has 3/8 in the finals with one lucky 3 and warrior's choke. In the other hand Mike is 6/6. Not even close!

The reason we don't debate MJ and Bird or MJ and Kareem or such but we do with Lebron is because Lebron is still making his legacy. While Kobe was playing all the headlines were "Is Kobe Better than MJ" "GOAT Debate MJ vs Kobe" once Lebron retires those talks will go away and you will get something like "Is Giannis Antetokounmpo better than MJ" thats just the way it goes, the only person never changing in these debates is MJ because MJ is the GOAT.

Kobe is the closest thing we'll get to Jordan. LeBron isn't even in that conversation, no matter how many Millennials try to push that narrative. Michael had the "flu game". LeBron had the "cramp game" in San Antonio. They are literally world's apart in terms of character and drive. LeBron is the weakest in the game's biggest moments. Kobe and Jordan were killers.

I get that we thank God for Phil to come along, but it’s not like Jordan chose him. They let go of Collins to let Phil come in, then MJ had to trust, he thing here “HE HAD TO TRUST” Phil’s philosophy of how they were going to win. And that was trusting his teammates. That’s what Phil taught him. There’s a famous scenario of the 1991 finals where MJ is saying this and that in the huddle and Phil says to him “Who’s Open?” “Who’s Open” MJ says Pax. “Get him the ball” watch that Game 5 of that finals and watch MJ draw and kick over and over and over again. It was a beautiful to see what might’ve been MJ’s “Ah Ha!” Moment.
