Mr Lovett! Point of order sir. It's a ToRaNa (Australian Indegenous peoples word for 'to fly') I understand you may have had a few sherries on board when you read it so all is forgiven😁 Yesterday we had a premium example of said vehicle at our Classic Car Owner's of Victoria, Cars and Coffee. It opened at 8.30 am with 250 spots available inside and by 9.00 all bays were filled. I love car people. They're happy to go a little 'off piste' much like meself. I felt like a dick in my Nissan patrol being the first to leave but my whinging mate needed to go for some reason. In fact I was driving back from a festival they’d played in Finland listening to the podcast when the live recording tickets were mentioned. I can be away months at a time and the podcast is my piece of home that keeps me company on the road. Keep up the great work. Many thanks.

@@v8jlz A Cayenne. Ignore my follies. An Alfa GQF is a super family car, easily seats 4 adults, takes on 2 bags. If you are looking at a 2020 model, I recommend adding the Akrapovic exhaust (the A/N modes are quiet, the D mode is not loud either), and also consider suspension/coil overs, because I felt it sat too high out of the factory. Convertibles with the top down, like motorcycles, have a narrow weather window where they are enjoyable instead of a chore. Primarily for me it's at night, a cool, but not cold evening, driving around the city, the open air ambiance is like magic. I have been chasing that feeling for years, and cannot be replicated without a convertible.
@markmawer

Totally agree. My favourite trip of the whole of last year was driving my Atom from Edinburgh to Dumfries through the dark feeling the temperature changes on my face as I drove under trees. It was a fantastic experience.
@secretsquirrel3793

Agreed. Drop tops are best in temperate climes, as stated in the film. Even rain in a Seven isn't much of an issue as long as the car is moving above 30mph or so. Even stuck in traffic a tonneau keeps most of the cockpit dry and if you're wearing a waterproof there's really not that much exposure in a shower. It amuses other road users too, in a light-hearted way!

I too grew up with BMW in the family (from 1967 onwards - 2000TiLux followed by countless 2002's and E21's) eventually running a BMW Dealership through the 80'sto early 90's. BMW no longer have a single vehicle that I would want to own...thank god for classic BMW's which still have a classy look. Slightly uncomfortable about what BMW ownership says about you with modern BMW's. Have to say that having been a Mercedes-Benz owner for the last 30 years, I no longer like their design language either.

Harris: "The E32 7 series had a 100 litre tank, fill that up and don't need to fill up again for a month" Yeah right. I had one, a 735i, and I filled it to the brim and exactly 3 hours later I'd used it all up. Admittedly that was covering a distance of 400 miles on a near empty A8 Autobahn at Vmax the whole time at an average of 133.3mph. Considering those numbers, I'd say I did well. In a turbo car doing those speeds I'd have been lucky to achieve 150 miles before needing to fill up again. I did try it in a turbo car once, I averaged 4mpg, but that was (almost) keeping up with a Diablo at 186mph. Remind me why I made my id veemacks again.

Given the caveat that no-one cares what I think, I really wasn't all that about this gig - too much waffle, too little substance. I was 3/4 the way through and about to leave and then CH rescued it by talking about (possibly) one of the best car journalists, Russell Bulgin. Once upon a time, he spent an entire column's worth of print (in Car magazine) celebrating the work of unknown people who finessed the action of wind-up windows and door-shut lines in a humdrum Japanese car. Bulgin was a genuine talent and I still miss his columns.

Not fond of convertibles....if its something flash, you are asking for some prick to Gob on you when driving in town, and in the case of old cars (e.g. my old 64 AC) water dripping onto my leg from the ill fitting, flapping hood. Or being cooked from the sun above and the heat from the headers soaking through the floor on the rare hot day. Misery! Rather have a sunroof on a tintop.
