How on earth do you know that those piles of mail in Vernon's office were props? Did Vernon say that? I doubt it - he was devastated by his son's death, and I can't imagine him setting something up, or allowing anyone else to do that, just to make himself look good. He had too much respect for Elvis's fans to try to fool them. Honestly, the crap that some people come up with all these years later.

I talked to J.D. Sumner years ago about the Elvis In Concert album and he said that the band and singers had to go into the studio to do overdubs because of audio issues at the shows. There was also an article in TV Guide that announced the deal The Col. and Elvis had signed for Elvis In Concert. I recall it stating that it was scheduled to be released in the spring of 1978. If that is true, then they did push the air date up because of Elvis' death.

Felton also didn’t record the orchestra so that had to be dubbed in as well. In our fan club at the time, in the summer of 77, we were hearing that the special was going to air in early October.

One of your best shows Robert and thanks to Steve for his fantastic input. I’ve read the building manager in Lincoln was the one who told CBS they couldn’t film as too many seats would be lost for the cameras. As for the straw hats there was a visiting group from the UK who were given the hats and they are wearing them in the special. How many more who knows. Thanks again for a wonderful show. 😀

Great show, I checked my UK 'Elvis In Concert' album from 1977. The labels are RCA Orange. The Blue label was used in the late Seventies / early 1980's in England on releases such as the 'I Was The One' and 'The Sound of Your Cry' LP's along with a 12" single release of an extended version of 'It's Only Love'. Other 45''s including 'Old Shep' at the time also featured the Blue Label so I'm guessing the '56 Sessions albums also featured that label. Checked my coloured vinyl, picture sleeve singles from the time. I was convinced that I had 'America The Beautiful' but of course, it's 'America'. 'This Is Elvis' was only shown in one cinema in London and as you mentioned about the TV Special Robert, after watching that (and also 'This Is Elvis' at the cinema), it left a very empty feeling. Always so interesting and enlightening to listen to, thank you. Steve, UK

Text is smaller but and under each side listing it states "double album". Unsure what year it was issued but it says England on label. Pretty sure it was 1977, because I have had it forever, I grew up in England and brought my collection with me to the USA. Unsure if or how I can post a picture but the UK for sure had the same blue label, unsure if it was first issue or a later.

DVD and blueray are now available. One is the tv broadcast, and the other has much more. Elvis's voice had peaked at this time, according to JD Sumner. Very very powerful, and the audience response is fantastic. They just LOVED Elvis and he loved them right back. There is too much negative publicity about these concerts, people forget that Elvis was 42 years old, not a wild rocker any more, and many fans don't appreciate how his voice matured over those years.

You are both SO correct. If I were to pick the best time for Elvis to have fired Tom Parker, it would have been in 1963, just after the release of the poor-selling “It Happened at the World’s Fair” album and film. He could have easily done it because the Colonel didn’t “own” him as he did several years later when he was trapped within his wrath. Elvis would have had the career he truly wanted and probably would have lived MUCH longer.

I thought the problem with the other concert wasn't that is was a bad show , but that Charlie was the lead singer, his mic was turned up so high and it killed the show. CBS did a horrible job with this special, no one wants to see the roadies setting up, concessions stands pouring cokes, fans walking around before the show, and old man looking lost smoking a cigarette. It's Elvis's last tour and they showed that crap instead of just showing what we wanted. There is a guy on KZitem that redid the special and it's great.

Are you kidding me? If you think the piles of mail in Vernon’s office was a prop, then you really don’t know anything about Elvis fans. The sheer volume of flowers sold the day after Elvis’s funeral was so immense that Memphis ran out of flowers at every shop and additional shipments had to be rushed in from around the nation. It was the record for the most flowers sold in the US on a single day. That’s a fact. 80,000 people came to watch the funeral procession, yes 80,000. That’s a fact. Around 600,000 people flock to Graceland every year and still do nearly 50 years after his death. That’s a fact. The fact that you are saying on your show that the piles of letters in Vernon’s office was a prop is absolutely insane. You really don’t know much about Elvis’s fans at all. WOW.

~ Robert, what you said is incorrect, sir. 14:53 The correct title for Elvis' recording is indeed "America The Beautiful". The song "AMERICA" has the lyrics of... I'm confused about what you expected out of me when Robert was talking about the My Way/America 45 record. Robert talks about the records, and I chime in talking about concert details. I could have rudely interrupted Robert to say that the version of America was recorded on December 13, 1975 at the Midnight Show at the Las Vegas Hilton. I could have confirmed that the version of My Way was from Rapid City on June 21, 1977. But it sounds like you expected me to let Robert know that the lyrics written in an 1895 poem was first titled "America", and an existing melody was authored by a different woman and published in 1892. The lyrics and melody were eventually combined in 1910 and titled "America The Beautiful". I am terribly sorry I didn't mention these details while filming. I am sure the other viewers of Robert's 40th episode were as concerned about this supposed error...no, they probably weren't. And the funny thing is the argument can be made that both "America" and "America the Beautiful" are correct titles for this song. So i hope @Allen-vl7zq has learned something today. Like Robert replied, for one reason or another, RCA stopped printing the "America the Beautiful" record suddenly which makes it a sought after item!
@Allen-vl7zq
3 ай бұрын
@@stamps77 Wrong. The "America" version was mistakenly printed first. It was those that RCA suddenly stopped printing. They corrected their error by reprinting them with the correct title... "America The Beautiful". RCA got the title right in 1980 on the 8-LP box set, "Elvis Aron Presley".
