Colours represent us. They can show the stories we can’t tell.
When I was 9 years old, my favourite colour was blue. I chose blue patterns and postcards, blue shirts and pens. A few years later, I fell in love with green. Around that time I liked playing board games - the green figure was always reserved for me. At 17 I only wrote with red ink, then I did the same with yellow, orange and purple.
As I grew older, I realised I might not have a favourite colour. I liked many of them for some time, but I changed my mind a lot. Like the wind, they came and went away - it was out of my control. Eventually, I got afraid of losing these colours. I started to collect them, bottle them up and lock them away for eternity. I questioned myself a lot, I thought I’d never be able to find and keep my own true colour.
Over time, I finally understood my mistake: It’s not the colour that makes people like me unique, it’s how they get along with them. There is a myriad of beautiful colours in this world. I’ve seen them in the streets, in other people, in thoughts and poetry and music. There are too many for me to choose a favourite, because they’re all a miracle in their own way.
Our colours change, and so do we. Today I chase colours every now and then, whenever I’m ready for something new. I am curious and wondering what the world may have to offer.
I can’t say which colours I will find next, but I will welcome every single one of them. And every time a new colour arrives, I watch it in awe as if I’ve never seen anything similar before.
I am a dreamer and a chaser. I am a collector of colours.

This painting is my entry for the art contest “I am a unique colour“ hosted by XP-Pen. It took me in total 16 hours (but I still spent my whole week on it).
What is your colour? Tell me about it in the comments!
