I have 7 applications out as well! Have not heard back officially but I did get a call from one school asking if I would consider attending if funding was not available.

What was some of the main criteria you were looking for in the programs you were applying to?

MFA in Film (production emphasis), in a city that would bring outside projects for me to hopefully work on, a relative big class size (to work with as many people as possible), access to network with industry professionals and utilize industry standard equipment. And ultimately funding was another huge factor and I was extremely fortunate with SCAD.

If you don't mind me asking, what were your stats?

I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a 3.85 GPA, I was a McNair Scholar, and involved in several student organizations plus I had two films recognized in the PBS online film festival. I got the Scholarship at SCAD based on my Personal Statement, GPA and portfolio.

Hey Marie !! Hope ur doing great . I’m Nikhil and I’m from India and I’ve done my bachelors in business administration and I love directing films so I want to make it my career. I want to join a film school and now I’m confused because every school offers BFA and MFA and I’m eligible for both . Which one do you think I should opt for because I have no idea which course offers what . Can you please help me through this and let me know the differences between MFA and BFA and also which course offers what ? Thank you :)

Hey! One is basically a 4-year degree (BFA) and one would be 5-6-years (MFA). I would say opt in for whichever degree you are willing to spend the time to get as well as the particular schools program you want to join. Some schools don’t offer MFAs in directing and some schools don’t offer BFAs in directing, it depends. But in order to get your masters degree you must have attained your Bachelors degree (BFA). I’m almost sure you have to complete a bachelors program in order to apply for a masters program (MFA). I would contact the schools you are interested in and speak with them about your options.
