How have you gotten your money's worth from a university degree from a real estate career perspective?

I'm doing my geneds right now (so boring...) but I try to complete all my school stuff as fast as possible at like a C-B grade level and spend most of my time learning real estate online and reaching out to people haha, everyone I've spoken to says a track record will take you a lot farther with future investors than education

As someone who graduated in 2020, I completely agree with everything in this video. Networking is much more important than GPA. Reach out to as many people as you can and try to make strong connections with alumni from your school who work in CRE.

Splendid content! As a current senior studying real estate, it is really cool to see first hand that these techniques are indeed valuable. I am on the board of my school's Real Estate Club and currently seeking an internship for the spring semester. Big things in the works!

Great video. I wish someone had said all of this to me in college. Internships are so important. Networking is so much easier in college. Once you get out of college you can still try and send LinkedIn messages to people you don’t know and hope they will talk to you but it is difficult if you don’t have an in. There is something about sharing an alma mater though people are way more likely to talk to you even if you graduated 10 years ago.

Hey Justin, great video! I recently got introduced to the CRE world and I am highly intrigued. I have watched about 20 of your videos in the last week. I am just lost on how to begin. I have an undergrad in education but I am actually in RE as a residential lender for the past 2 years. What’s your recommendation on breaking into the CRE world as an analyst? I am thinking I have to go to grad school and get a masters in finance/real estate. Let me know your thoughts and thank you for the informative videos!

My recommendation is to spend the majority of your time learning real estate financial modeling and analysis in Excel, networking/informational interviewing, and grad school could be helpful if you're several years into your career and you won't go into significant debt to go. Good luck!

I have an interview with CBRE Financial consulting Group for a Financial Analyst position in San Francisco and I'm pretty nervous. I heard they ask you to do a technical part with a Financial Calculator to find things like IRR and NPV, do you think you can make a video on how to use it for an interview or do you know any resources that'll help with using a financial calculator?
