Very cool neighborhood. I thought those might be dates on that palm. But I googled date fruit and from the photos, I think it more likely that they are acai. I could be wrong!

I checked both, definitely dates. Both grow here. I was thinking that they were dates when in person but wasn't sure.

Hey Scott, absolutely love your videos. You are by far, the authority on Nicaragua for us westerners. What advice can you offer for me... 1. Never been to Nicaragua (i have basic spanish skills). 2. Want to spend a month or two later this year. 3. Want to move there and buy a house! Thinking of following your advice in a different video where you mapped out a nice tour of the country, seeing Granada, Managua, Matagalpa and San Juan del Sur etc. Do you have consulting online and if so how much? Thanks!

Hey again Scott. I noticed a lot (most), of the nice houses have high barb wire fences and huge fences and walls. Is it that bad? I thought it was the safest country in the region? Spoils the beauty of the homes.

Maybe a case of wealthier people being a bit more paranoid as they are more of a target?

I have several videos on why it looks insecure to Americans and why America looks unsafe to Central Americans because we don't have to lock our doors since we secure our perimeters instead of our doors. Remember we live outside, not inside, so a locked door locks us out, not in. We have to secure the walls. Also, it's worth noting that keeping people from swiping loose cash or a laptop left on a table is seen as a safety issue from a US perspective. In Nicaragua, the average issue of a "home invasion" is someone running in an open door and grabbing the first thing that they see and running out again (I've had $5 and a pack of cigarettes stolen that way) - people are not armed. But in the US, a home invasion involves guns, extreme risk of bodily harm and a truck taking everything that you own. The idea of safety is completely different. We are protecting against petty theft in the outdoor living space. Americans protect their lives in their indoor living space. So what is casual security in Central America appears scary to a US perspective. But really, the American approach is much scarier. Also, Nicaraguans aren't armed so there's no fear of being shot. Americans go FAR more extreme and have guns to shoot intruders (or neighbors or anyone coming too close) so barbed wire and open windows is nothing at all compared to locked doors and guns. In reality the barbed wire represents how secure it really is that that is enough to protect on its own. kzitem.info/news/bejne/qn-Et4qqopimkoo Video specifically on this.
