This scene embodies the difference between womanism and feminism. Feminism only cares about self. Miss Millie couldn't see the irony of how Sophia felt surrounded by a by a bunch of white people she was afraid of, for good reason. She thought men trying to help her were attacking her. And she didn't care that Sophia hadn't seen her family. Was even detached from the fact that she was the cause for this estrangement. No connection at all to Sophia's pain and suffering. That's white feminism in a nutshell.

The saddest thing about that movie was what happen to Sophia. It was shocking the change in her. Those men shouldn't have tried to help the woman drive the car. I don't remember her name, but I think it Miss.. Millie. It that time and place, the good intentions of the men could have gone badly for them.I saw that movie when I was a child probably not long after it had been released. I didn't understand things then like I do. Sophia had a spirit that ought never be crushed. That scene is so hard to watch still feel like crying
