It was much helpful to learn the spot color separation for screenprinting which confused me a lot. You simply explained it. Many thanks.

Thank you very much! This is not EXACTLY what I am doing but it's darn close and gets me a good start!! All the other videos show how to convert a CMYK to spot in illustrator by simply using EDIT COLORS; RECOLOR ARTWORK?! Not at all what I, and others, need. Thank you for a methodical explanation using channels.

Hi, thanks for a comprehensive video on this. We get far as choosing the Pantone colour but, even though the correct area of our photo is selected with the walking ants, the channel shows the whole page as black. This happens if we tick invert or not. So it's making the whole page that new Pantone. How do we just change the selection? In the icon next to the new channel it is a black box rather than just showing what we chose in Color Range.

Hey! Got a question: I have a specific spot color that I need to change back to the black channel. How can I do this without losing my layers? Also, I don't want any % of that spot color (5605 C - dark green) to go into the C and Y channels. I want everything to go directly into the black channel.

I have a design that is in 16 layers but in grayscale mode and I have to convert it to index color mode(no more then 16 colors). It has to match a multi colored image. I am not familiar with this way of indexing but I need to learn it for a possible job position. Can anyone help me?

Please help me! I hope you are still checking in on this page... you have NO idea how much this video helped me out with my job. I landed in a position that I have no experience with really, and am flying solo in this screen printing world with absolutely no help whatsoever except random people on the internet, and so far you are like my guardian angel. My question in this specific process is; How do I create a White Under Layer that includes everything? (As I wrote it, it occurred to me that maybe I just keep adding all the colors in the "Select Color" part of the process, until the whole image is selected, and then create a new Channel that is White?) Is this the way to do it? (Does that mean I use the color dropper with the plus sign by it, to add a new color, or do I just keep clicking on colors with the original color dropper? Also, will you move to where I live, and just come help me whenever I need you? JK. Thanks!!!! You are the best. (P.S. I was a licensed architect with extensive CAD experience, and then got my masters in Costume Design which I was thriving in until COVID shut the theaters down and ruined that dream... so you can see where it seemed like a good fit for this "graphic design/screen printing gig".... computers/dying/fabric.... except I know nothing about it really. It's really f'ing complicated.) :-)

So these are not different layers ? Just different Alpha Channels?
@Willymaze

That’s what you need in the end; you can have a color in a separate layer tagged as a Pantone but it will still read as a composite 4 color. You can create the layer and then take the selection and make it an alpha channel.
