Great layout update. Short circuits are one of the most frustrating parts of the hobby, glad you found the cause. I am looking forward to seeing the revisions to your layout. Now is the best time to do them before you get too far along. It's always hard to tear up track you have put down but I think your revisions are well worth it. I like all the changes you are proposing.-Tom

Looking forward to seeing the changes to your layout. I am going through the same scenario as you. I had a tunnel on the end of a peninsula that was giving me trouble. I had to crawl under the layout to retrieve the derailed cars. Now that I am older and I'm not suppose to kneel on my knees, I took part of the tunnel out in the middle and made two small tunnels at each end of the curve . This then led to changes to my yard. I took out the turntable and roundhouse to make more ready tracks for my diesel locomotives. It's funny how one problem gets the ball rolling to changes you've been wanting to make but kept on putting them off. LOL! Randy

It's probably humidity. I had a bad problem like that. The wood absorbs moisture you don't feel and that is what expands and contracts. I'm planning on a wall mounted heater/ac/dehumidifier for my train room. Ductless, expensive but should be worth it with climate control. BEAUTIFUL LAYOUT..... I love your updates....

Sometimes it takes years for any effects of contraction or expansion. What I think mostly likely happened is the expansion was gradual over years without contraction, culminating this year in the buckling you experienced. Anyhow, I like where you want to take the layout, it will allow for more ops and i to love The Rio Grande paint scheme at the of and just before the SP merger. Looking forward to the changes.

I can't say for certain, but I'd still put them in. They don't really cause any problems if you keep them small. My layout is plywood with pink extruded insulation tops. Cheers, Kevin

From your previous video in December, you mentioned you don't live in Colorado now, but this video seems to indicate that you still live in Colorado? Second, I am really impressed with your video work. What video camera and video editing program do you use. I live in the metro Denver area, so I am very familar with the areas you model. Also, I am a Santa Fe modeler, so I enjoy seeing all your Santa Fe engines and rolling stock.

Sherrie, correct, I don't live in Colorado currently. However, I make it a point to get back there several times a year. Thanks for the compliments on the video. My camera is a JVC Everio HD camcorder. My exact model isn't made any more but there are still several offered in this line. The video editing program I use now if Corel VideoStudio. I also used Microsoft Movie Maker when I first started. Glad to hear you're a Santa Fe modeler and in the Denver area. You can help keep me up to date on what's changing In Denver and along the Joint Line. Cheers, Kevin

It's frustrating to look at a layout that you have created and realize that it's "not quite right". Fortunately, most layouts can be flexed or rebuilt. The real railroads are doing it all the time to adapt to traffic patterns or to serve different customers or to replace obsolete facilities. Sorry to hear that traffic will have to halt for a while, but the revised plans look pretty cool. Besides, if you add part of North Yard you have a place for your UP trains to go :-) Good luck on the projects and please keep us informed. It is inteesting to watch a layout evolve.
