Thru hiked the CT and Collegiate West route in 2018. The West route was definitely isolated and steep but that is what made it awesome.

I Recommend taking petroleum jelly!. U can mix with wild mints to make the vapor rubs. U can mix with the ashes from ur fire to make foot creams. U can use it as a fire start on some cotton balls. The list goes on and on. Works way better than any lotions in dry air like Colorado!. There’s so much I can make from the ashes of ur fires. Like detox tabs etc

Good tips. The only thing I would add is to plan on staying in Breckenridge for the beer, food, and shower, but don't resupply till you get to Copper Mountain. You have a pretty good climb from Breck to Copper Mountain, and it sucks if you have 5-6 days worth of food. Maybe just get some snacks for the day hike over to Copper Mountain then you can either ship a resupply box into Copper Mountain, or they have a free shuttle that will take you into Frisco. Copper Mountain also has hotels, so you can have a shower two nights in a row! :)

A buddy and I are hiking from Denver to Twin Lakes in July. We plan to resupply at a hostel at Breckenridge. We would like to avoid caring 6-7 days of food. Any where between Denver and Breckenridge to mail a food drop to? Due to limited time we'd like to avoid hitching an a long time off of trail. I guess we could do a cache if need be but that takes a lot of time as well to drive down and drop it. Thanks for any help.

I too was wondering about quilt warmth; I have a 30* and I’m going to get a warmer quilt. 0, 10 or 15*. Thanks.

Dude! I bought a new jacket in Breckenridge last time I was there. It is a dope outfitter. They were super helpful and have a really good selection for a small outfitter. Thanks for the tips. Looking at doing this in a couple years.

Hey guys, thanks for putting this awesome video together. It's seems like most people hike sobo rather than nobo, is there a reason for that? Also, would you recommend thru hiking solo? Thank you so much!! :)

Sobo is a more gradual climb into the mountains.

Bring baking soda instead of tums, its scent-less, light, cheap, and instant heart burn and indigestion relief.

U can also make Charcoal tabs with ur ashes as well for detox foot powder etc!. This way u don’t have to carry as much. There is so much that can be made right there in the wild with the right knowledge. Pain meds etc again I better know what ur doing tho, lol!.

My biggest thing I take is petroleum jelly. Cause I can mix with the ash for foot creams. I can add mint to it for a vapor rub. The list goes on and on. Good fire starter with cotton balls!. I’m just saying a little knowledge goes a long way and helps lighten the pack is all!.

Gear question since I’ll be doing the CT this summer - given the altitude and weather would you bring a 30 or 15 degree bag? On possible add on could be a silk liner to provide more warmth. Also do you guys have an email address or other way of contacting you. Great content overall - keep going! Matt

What time of year did you do the Colorado Trail and how long did it take you?

Avid Hiker ok wow we're answering this super late. So sorry we missed this comment. So we set out in the beginning of July, I think July 5th, and we ended August 8th I believe. This is definitely one you want to do in the summer time to avoid heavy snow at higher elevations

Doesn't it kinda defeat the purpose to be staying in hostels?
@traveliers8778
6 жыл бұрын
PLAGUE720 not really. You camp 3 to 5 days between towns where your stay at a hostel so when you get into town you're usually ready for a break. If you want to be super hardcore you don't have to stay at hostels. You can camp the whole way. It will be for a month though so hope you sleep well in a tent 😁

Traveliers I've slept outside under the stars for 20+ years, I'm pretty sure I've got the experience to deal with the elements? All of your other tips seem beneficial. So am I allowed to pick a spot off of the trail to camp? Or are there certain areas only? Also how often do you see Rangers up there? Did you guys happen to come across any fishing spots? Honestly I've planned the trip southbound but not the return trip. I'll either hitchhike back to Denver, or turn around and go back the way I came. If it only takes a month then why not just turn around and come back?
@traveliers8778

You can camp anywhere. Never saw a ranger. Great fishing spots all over and the hitching is pretty good around there so you can far like that

I’m hitting the trail for the wild. When I go hiking I don’t like to stay in hotels. That defeats the purpose to me!. To me that’s why I go on hikes for the struggle and the old ways of living. To each their own I’m not picking just saying it seem like that’s all u guys was saying hotel this hotel that for a camping hiking trip. Different strokes different fokes they say.
