James A. Fitzpatrick takes us on a technicolor tour of the Central American nation of Guatemala, starting with its capital, Guatemala City, which sits on a large plateau about a mile above sea level, and which is the center of the wealth, culture and political administration of the country. As we see views of parks, streets, hotels and churches, Fitzpatrick regales with the history of this small country just south of Mexico. We also see the native peoples going through their daily activities. Then we move on to Antigua, the ancient capital, which has recovered after being destroyed twice by earthquakes. Then we’re shown what was then the lifeblood of the Guatemalan economy: the cultivation of coffee. We follow the process from beginning to end: from growth through harvest through drying and readying for shipment. Another excellent entry in the Traveltalk series.
